Model: Crew Cab, short bed Pickup
Year: 2002
Engine/Size: 444 Turbo Diesel
Transmission: 6 speed manual
Mileage: 93,595
Tire Size: 35”x12.5”
Gearing: 3.73
Weight 10,500 lbs fully loaded, Empty-no camping gear 7,809 lbs ½ tank fuel
On highway MPG: 20.4 MPG in regular mixed driving (last 2,000 miles)
Off highway MPG: about 13 and 11.5 in deep sand (burns over 1 gallon just idling each hour)

Now I know what you are thinking on the 20.4 mpg mixed driving in a full size truck on 35’s and lifted…BS, right!
It's not. I top off with diesel every fill up. And I really top off! I fill up until I see diesel is at the top of the fill neck. This means I get exact fuel reading and exact MPG reading. No guessing at all. I have done this since new and recorded every gallon of diesel that has gone into the rig.

The 20.4 MPG average for the last 2K miles is when Diesel cost $3.20-$3.60 plus, so I have been driving conservative and at the speed limit. At 10,500 lbs at 70 mph (2000 RPM) I get 16.5-17.5 MPG. 10,500 lbs and drop down to 65 MPH equals 18.2 MPG.

The last 2,000 miles cost me $312.44 in fuel. My range to empty has been 675 miles.

Pulling a 4,700 lbs trailer on winter #1 fuel last year, netted me 13.51 MPG over 1,930 miles running 70 mph (2000 RPM). Winter diesel sucks MPG down 1-3 mpg.

Last trip to the Smokey Mountains running 75 plus MPH, loaded to about 8,500 lbs. with a roof rack and a 35” tire on top netted me 17.0 MPG even. (994.96 mountain miles mixed Highway and some slow off road)

Best ever empty on 33” tires was 21.86 MPG! 10/02

And best empty on 35” tires was 21.0 MPG, Just three weeks ago.

Make: Toyota
Model: Tacoma
Year: 2004
Engine/Size: 5VZFE (3.4l V-6)
Transmission: 5 Speed Manual
Mileage: 53,000
Tire Size: 265/70R16 (stock BFG Rugged Trail TA)
Gearing: Unknown/Stock
Weight (if known or approx): Unknown, probably close to stock (~4200lb)
On highway MPG: Highway: 20.5-23 (though on one occasion I got 27mpg!) City: 18-20.
Off highway MPG: 17-19 when combined with highway driving (unknown for off road only, I only fill up the tank when its near empty.)

Even though my Leer shell has the ability to mount a roof rack (it has rails for a Yakima or Thule rack) I keep all the gear inside for maximum security and MPG.
