Sorry I was talking about punk from late 70s-80's ; when that was the debate in school. Thread jack, off. Wait that doesn't sound very good.:sombrero:

Hey whoa,

I'll give you early punk, like 80's and way early 90's. It's basically heavy metal of the future. The kids just got angrier. We do not want to get into a debate about music. I am probably one of the most opinionated people when it comes to music.

With that being said, True METAL is where it's at.

Sorry pete, this was an extreme thread jack.

I find it really amusing, people coming into the thread making comments about gen 2 this and gen 3 that and never having owned both.

Peter has owned and wheeled every Monty generation, In my opinion he's pretty qualified to make opinions on the differences between them, some of you guys have never owned a gen 3, and are trying to make arguments comparing the two, and then the guys coming into the thread trying to "moderate", sooth, and relate...When again you've never owned both.

PS. I've owned both.
PSS. I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, and I'm sure, possibly some of you have owned both?

I've owned both, and for what it's worth, ive owned all gen's, my Gen 3 felt like it was going to fall apart on basically a dirt road. Never even felt confident enough to put it through any abuse. But, it did look pretty and my wife loved that truck. Road handling was amazing compared to the Gen 2. But then again I run no sway bars and 35's on the Gen 2.

Toasty

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
We should start or dig up the old thread on this, poor Pete and his build thread getting ravaged. I think he started it though, classic Montypower.

I've never owned a Gen3, i've driven a ton of them and have wanted to get one but i've never been able to sell myself one. I have however been able to sell myself 15+ other Mitsu 4x4's :smiley_drive:

Back to build thread!

hi guys, please accept my apologies for jacking this thread with my questions. I never meant it to turn this way, I was just trying to clarify for myself differences and personal experience from person who owned all trucks that I have. For what it's worth, owning Sport and Gen2.5 I'm considering Gen3. I admire Montypower for his dedication and great job of modifying his truck as well as using it for it's intended purpose not like many others I know

Just returned from a week in Yosemite. Incredible scenery. 2 Hot Springs. 1 Ghost Town. ~ 30 miles of hiking. 1,800 miles driven.

Best fuel mileage 23mpg (about 300 miles on half tank)

Will get more details up this weekend. Fantastic trip. Such a beautiful area!

Many of the campgrounds are closed. So camping without reservations could be difficult. We ended up camping in various locations. It is getting COLD. Several of the hikes were over 9k ft elevation.

You'll love it.

looking forward to hear the details. It will be my wife and daughters first time there, and last time I went was about 12 years ago in July. I do recall needing reservations MONTHS in advance but I could have sworn there were out of the park "back country" camping spots that were open or something of that sort. If you got any tips or inside info of where to stay I would love to hear it, Our original plan was just to make a quick stop before going to the bay area but told them we should stay there the whole trip, so now were scrambling to find a place lol. I do remember stopping at a place called convict lake that was nice but if recall correctly that was WAY before lol.

Anyways Props man, you really do rack up some miles on that Monty. I may have missed it in the build thread but what kind of oil do you use? OCI? I usually use Mobil 1, Valvolne, Castrol synthetics, whichever is on sale. Not as picky as I used to be with my Audi lol.

Thanks.

Also, do you have a transmission cooler added?

I'm wondering how well-cooled these trannies are, stock? I'm going to be moving up into the Rockies and probably using a lot of low-range.

Still running the stock cooler. I've debated adding an additional cooler but it hasn't been necessary. Even running the Morrison Jeep trail in the peak summer heat (extremely steep, exposed, rocky climb with massive elevation gain over a very short distance - 20+ switchback that are nearly undriveable) the transmission temp light didn't illuminate. Seem to be adequate, although more cooling couldn't hurt. My goal has been to keep everything stock and reliable.
