Give me the scoop guys...

Here's the "scoop" that no one else is going to give you.

Oh, gee, I can't wait...let's see what gems you have in store...

Gas mileage sucking roof rack that will be never used, except to carry gas around town near gas stations, probably a shovel, and a Big 5 explosion to a state camp site situated 1 mile from the Interstate, check.

While I have not taken a cross-country trip (yet) I have most likely done more vehicle based trips with my (former) Bronco, Scout II, and Traveler than you are giving me credit for. In the spring time I routinely do 1-2 week trips to the Nantahala NF, NC Outer Banks, etc.

snorkel safari equipped, check. for all of those deep river crossings you expect that might delay you from picking up the kids after school.

Yes, that's the reason I am looking at that particular vehicle. /sarcasm

I could care less about the snorkel, the roof rack, etc. These aren't things I'm looking for in particular. Get over yourself.

black-ops painted 18" alloy rims, check. this is a real shame, too, because the 16" D2 alloys look really good and are somewhat rare. The steelies aren't bad, either.

I agree...they should have been left silver...I'm not into the whole mall ninja look that CA seems to have spawned so effectively

redneck KC's, check. KC's were cool on my Jeep. It annoys me that the owner didn't retain the smiley face yellow covers. If you're going to give a middle finger to truck snobbery then do it right. The KC's would be perfectly legit with the blaring yellow covers. Instead, the owner has left the covers off to fool the unknowing into thinking he paid big bucks for nice lights. Put the covers back on and run it, or donate them to the nearest Jeep raffle.

As stated before, the fact that it has lights is of little consequence...merely a coincidence. The fact that it has a nearly new engine and suspension work has already been done is one less thing I have to do.

unused winch, check. no surprises here. make sure it's not seized. the SG bumper and winch is a solid bonus.

The bumper and winch I do not mind. It sucks to need a winch and not have one...don't worry, I'd check the functionality...but thanks for looking out...

tons of truck bling and mall terrain tires, check.

I have always had good luck with BFG AT's...not really sure what you have against them. They are one of the better road-going ATs...but you can have your opinions

Often spotted in: driveways, city parks, McDonalds drive-thru.

I'm shocked there isn't an array of carefully ordered stickers in the rear cargo window. The photobug types like to order them by the color pallete of the sticker. Other people will order them alphabetically. yet another theme is to order them carefully by size and shape. You know who you are.

Not a fan of stickers...glad we have that in common.

They probably sold it to buy an X5, which is doing everyone a favor. You can sell the rack, the snorkel, and the lights and get enough back for better wheels and tires.

Hmm, good idea...I don't mind the rack if a tent is in my future. Assuming its not a POS rack.

But I know already that you wouldn't. You chose this vehicle for the same reasons the prior owner "built" it. And none of those involve taking it off road. The first time out will involve a dent to the fender of Prescious, inappropriate trimming of trees that catch on the empty roof rack, and much wailing and belly aching about a sliced sidewall and/or damaged rim.

Oh really? Wow, you know me so well. I'm glad you have so much insight into my life.

Perfect.

Yes, perfect indeed. If by perfect you are referring to your smug attitude that you have "perfected" so well.

Sean Jones-the owner of Blue Ridge has a good rep and is a dyed in the wool Rover guy. That one sure does have the kit on it and the replacement engine can be good thing. I don't see it mentioned that a CDL lever was added but for the use you mentioned that may not be a big issue.

The price seems a little high to me but if the vehicle condition supports it then I'm sure there is some negotiation built in. Finding out it's history is essential so head on to Asheville and spend some time with Sean.

My parents live there, so I will be up in a week or two. The defender looks pretty tempting as well. But unfortunately the defender wouldn't fill any role that the scout doesn't already. Although it would be a cool toy.

Can I just put it out there that SeaRubi is not an asset to this discussion and his replies are not in the spirit of this forum.
I suggest the Moderator of this forum take a look at his posts and consider some sort of action.
Absolutely ridiculous. No one deserves to be treated like that, online or off.

Everyone seems capable of holding their own, no need to go crying to a playground aid. Go watch Barney or something untill it cools down in here.

If all youre looking for is a new motor and good suspension, look for a truck with those and nothing else. If any of the extras on there dont do it for you, why pay that premium for them? That doesnt make sense. Also, if youre looking for a truck without a 4.0 version of the same old motor, why would you go and look at one with that motor in it? Its probably a 4.0 but with a Bosch system instead of the LR Gems system. Also, Alia has blown the motor issues a little bit out of proportion. On the internet, problems are big. In real life, theyre not so much.

My truck would probably make Rubi choke since I have all the things that he so despises on my truck with the exception of mine actually being used...

Gear Junkie!

water toys, and self professed "gear junkie". the point of my tirade in this thread is that the LR forum on ExpeditionPortal is better than serving only as guide for used cars that happen to be land rovers and what drawers to buy to fill with crap you don't need (different thread).

I am sticking to that point wether y'all like it or not. If I'm banned for that so be it. It's not my forum and I'm not speaking for the mods or for Scott. I have a lot of respect for them, even if I do get banned.

Back to the OP - you have two SD33t's in the stable and you're really intent on shopping for a Disco? This is purely about fashion. That's been my main point, all along. It's why I keep antagonizing the people in this thread. It continues to cater to lazy shopper mode. You want us to do all your work. And for what reason? You give us a photograph of a truck that'd decorated with every cliched mod in existence. The only thing missing really are limb risers. How do we know anything about that truck? We can't. We're on the internet. we can't summon rover-kung-**** from a distance and tell you about a slipped liner, sagging ACE springs, or really give you any indication to its condition any more than you've been able to gather for yourself. It's ridiculous.

Alright. It seems you guys all like it this way.
I prefer information minus the sarcasm and drama.
Good luck majorpayne, hope everything works out.

Man, you Land Rover guys are brutal!

Please don't lump me in with others. I don't understand why people get angry because some one asked a question. I'm not singling anyone out, I've seen this anger in many places. It's an internet forum, what the heck is it for if not a place for someone to ask/answer questions.

To SeaRubi-I'm sure the OP isn't looking for all the answers here, he just asked for some insight by people that may know more about Land Rovers than he does. What is wrong with that? Haven't you ever been excited about something and wanted to learn/talk about it? I'm sorry if you're having a bad time or something but take it easy man, it's just a question.

(to the OP) Is that DII a bit overbuilt-sure, it looks ready for the amazon but that can be removed/sold if desired. It's got a new engine, what happened to cause the prior engin to fail and what other damage was done would be my first concern-well right after rust. The seller is a shop that also sells mostly on consignment so there is a good chance you'll get a good answer to the question. If it doesn't feel right-walk away there are plently more.

Agree with the above comments on the 04 being the one in demand. However, CDL can be added to any disco for $250.

How? What??

I have a 2002 Disco, and love it. I'm not a "wheeler" by any stretch. I do however use my D2 as a platform to get my favorite toys into the backcountry. It has plenty of storage space, is very comfortable on road trips, and does as well as I need it to do once the pavement ends. I bought a Rover because I really wanted one. To try and justify a Rover is tough. It's usually an emotional purchase, not a logical one. Mine has had many of the typical woes, and has cost a pretty penny to repair and maintain, but it's mine.

There are a couple cons to Rover ownership. The anti-Rover guys are going to bust your chops for owning a Rover and not a <insert manufacturer here>. As an added bonus, the genuine Rover fanatics are going to bust your chops even more because you're a newb in the Rover world and their blood runs Rover green, and you're just some chump who must have been born yesterday. Rover "experts" love to beat up on each other. Not sure what that's all about.

Okay, gotta run. I have more stickers to put on my rear window. :)

It's not just that...there are a lot of variables to consider for me. I figured the new engine and suspension alone could possibly make it a relatively good deal. Like stated before, I'll have to check it out in person.

And it looks like you have a nice rig, even with all those awful lights and gas cans :p

You're partially right. Sure I like the way Disco's look. I also like that they come with a V8, solid axles, and are built on a platform from a company that catered to overland travel. I love my diesels, and they have their place, but I kind of want a change.

In the realm of "newer" vehicles that have all the things I am looking for, there are only a limited amount of options. I had looked at Rovers several years ago, but it just didn't work out. I'm not really sure what you mean by I'd like you to do my work for me. But everyone I have talked to gives me different answers. And most of them haven't used them as extensively as the members of this forum...that's why I came here to ask this question.

Different outlooks on things are always good in my opinion.

The truck I linked to was just one that I ran across...I realize you can't go lie underneath it and check it out. I'm not wanting you guys to use your combined psychic abilities to tell me if its the perfect vehicle for me. But going off of the year, description, etc. it would be nice to have some people more experienced with them say "hey, make sure to look at this, check that, etc"...that's all

I don't think it's that ridiculous at all really.

Unless it spews gold nuggets out the exhaust, $10k for a 2001 D2 is pathetic. But, there's an *** for every seat.
SeaRubi, it's nice that someone here can spell out the obvious.
