Looks like we may have gained 1mpg with the new gears fully loaded and possibly 2mpg unloaded... we'll see after our second trip for sure (there were too many different variables on the way home last trip)

Great, how does the power feel?

Better off the line performance?

Yeah, it feels much better. It's not a dragster, but you can feel the difference.

The biggest thing i've noticed is that loaded/unloaded the 80 doesnt care anymore.. it does the same. It's a tractor.

Hmmm, maybe I should be thinking about 4.56s instead of 4.11s.

Hey Dave, just wondering how this is working out for you? It sounds that 5:29 is what I should be doing, but towing or not here on the east coast 55mph will get me run over or more likely cause an accident with most of our roads being 65mph with an avg. of 70 mph.
I'm guessing that I'm close to 1k lighter than you packed. I'm guessing 4:88's may be more workable for me? I realized I needed to do something after a few mountain passes this weekend!

Sorry Bob, i've been busy lately and totally forgot to check on this thread.

I recommend the 5.29's only if you are super heavy, pull a trailer and want more low end grunt instead of top end speed.

I've been driving the LC with and without the trailer and with and without the Roof rack lately and i noticed that the 5.29's are not ideal for anyone without a trailer, or anyone that wants any great speed. Sure i can run 75mph, but then im over spinning and therefore IMHO pushing the engine harder and sucking down more fuel per mile.

If my rig was without a trailer and maybe just a rack, i'd go 4.88's for sure. It would be perfect. I think with 33's and no roof rack you could get away with 4.56's.

Hope this helps a little.

Have you done a speedo gear fix like the Yellow Box? if not, you'll be amazed at how it corrects your shift points being this far away from stock configuration (you are probably about 26-28% overgeared on 33's purely compared to stock).

When I was on 35's and did the gears, adding the Yellow Box was what really made it all work together.

Pretty cool to see somebody pull the trigger on 5.29's and 33's on a 1ZFE :ylsmoke:

Interesting - thought 55 with a trailer was a federal speed limit on interstate highways (freeways to those of us in CA).

I do 70-80 towing in Fl and never get pulled over.

I haven't yet... but i really get a kick out of how it shifts into 2nd before i cross an intersection :D

Need to order it but the Yellow box is so spendy :(

Really? I think I paid $99 from a motorcycle shop (the 80 happens to use the same wiring design as bikes for the speedo, which is why this little gem works for us). You'll need to brush up on your yoga practice for the install, though.

Mark's box about doubles the price, but it is pretty plug and play.

You'll be shocked at the difference - all the benefits without latte damage :D

No prob Dave.. I run 315's and I'm getting heavy. I am picking up a front runner aux tank, 4xlabs rear bumper and a rack. I tow but not too frequent. She won't be a daily driver for much longer....whats your average comfortable speed with the 5:29's.?
Thanks,
Bob
