Greetings to all, and a 4Runner Question.

Driving style has a lot to do with fuel millage. I can squeak 18MPG out of my 4runner (5spd) filly loaded on the hwy. I set the cruse to 55-60mph and stay in the slow lane.

My 4runner is far from stock as far as solid axle, tires and gears. I just live with the millage, at some point I will install a 3.4L and hope its a bit better.

So as a relative newbee to Toyota 3.0's I understand it's limitations. Is a 3.4 swap a thing a 'experienced amateur' could swing?
I mean when I bought it I had a '****** were they thinking moment'..when I found out where the knock sensor was.:Wow1:. But I dug out the wrench set and broke into it. Then did it all again a year later when the HG blew.
I'm looking at a durable, efficient and dependable engine to keep my 4Runner running for a while longer.
My '91 is in great shape for an Asian truck in Wisconsin..it originated in AZ. Little rust and only a few other minor issues.
Some good swap info on Yotatech. There is a whole section for 3.4 swaps here:

...and one of the better write ups to get you started. The first post of this one also links to two other good ones.

Poke through them a while and decide if it is within your capabilities. Good luck!

Thanks for the info guy's. Only thing is now I'm gonna have to tackle the knock sensor problem again mad:! Toyota has a 'superseded' part # for the 3.0 knock sensor wire lead...82219-89103 if anyone else needs the part.
So I looked into the 3.4 swap and it looks like it's more than I want to handle for the outcome.
I think I'd rather drop in the Chevy V6:smiley_drive:
Just Kidding!

Shoulda done my homework and got a T4R with the 22R.:yikes:

I owned a 94 w/ a 3.0 and an auto 4wd 31" tires (stock option) and no matter
what got 17 average year round. I would never have gotten rid of it except it
was totaled 2 yrs ago.
I owned it for 4yrs and I don't care what any body said about the 3.slow, it was
great to me, and if you listen to Scenic headers and 2.25 exhaust will work
wonders for this engine. ( like how I worked scenic and wonders in there)
Yotatech is excellant for info.
I got and 02 Taco after that truck but went back to an 02 4runner last year.
The wife wouldn't let me buy an older truck again cauz we use and depend on
her camry and my runner to much.

I had a '91 4Runner 22RE/5spd. It never got much better than 19. My old '89 22RE/5spd XtraCab did a lot better on the highway on "32s even. I did drive a '90 V6 and I highly doubt it was any quicker/more powerful than my 22RE. It should have had a TuRD package sticker on the side of it.

Try here: http://www.lcengineering.com/ I have never ordered from them but I have heard lots of good.
