We met this great couple on their way down to South America, at a very slow pace in a 1970 Serie IIA with a 200 tdi engine.

Hence their name - Slowayround:

Love all the details! The high muffler is the best, after the pop top, after the padlocks, after the bigger tires, after the high up storage box after the....

I dunno, having that diesel exhaust 3 feet from the driver's left ear can't be a pleasant experience. Looks like the exhaust is giving the driver's side of the vehicle a nice sooty patina, as well. Glad it works for the owners.

Their blog mentions that the couple is from Humboldt County, CA, and that they installed the engine in the Defender just before leaving on the trip.

I'm not sure I'm digging the exhaust, especially in a Dormobile. Can you imagine sleeping in it with the engine running? There's a lot of little interesting bits on that truck that I could sit around for hours discussing with them. A lot of them aren't my cup of tea, but I bet there's a good story behind each one that makes it that much more a part of the family. I'm sure it's as personalized for their uses and environment as TeriAnn's is for hers.

Not that it matters, but that's no Defender. Just picking nits.

Yup, Series IIA 109.
All that steel has to make the rig really top heavy.
I can only think they were worried about the exhaust getting ripped from under the car for some reason. It can't be about deep fording as I don't see an intake snorkel.
I can see a lot that I'd do differently, but hey, they're doing their trip so hard to find serious fault.

It will be interesting to follow the trip to see if they makes changes along the way. Even with the 200Tdi that cruising speed can't be much over 50, more time to enjoy the environs!
