There is some stuff missing and not working right. It may be easier in the end just to put a new a-frame coupler on. $26 at Harbor Freight. If you find its manufacturer. Many offer repair kits.
Said that,
Those hitches what are rivited construction you wont find repair parts for.
Is your example damaged/worn out, or you just dont want to clean up to use it ?
Btw,
Your example appears lacking hole for a safety pin. Maybe now is good time to correct that.
It's interesting that you spied the 2" stamp. There must be something wrong inside because the 2" ball didn't want to go, but the 1 7/8 was okay. Probably should bite the bullet and just put a new coupler on. Thanks!looks like surface rust on the coupler parts shown. How are the internal parts? Could you disassemble and sandblast?
A few minutes of searching led me to something that looks similar but it's 2". Maybe they don't make 1 7/8 any more.
Here were my searches for reference.
FIRST SEARCH
Drilled down to this product.
Blackout
These are not your run-of-the-mill trailer accessories. We've taken your everyday products like Trailer Couplers / Ball Mounts and leveled them up.trailervalet.com
WEST MARINE PICS
Maybe it uses the same spring or other common parts and you could do a combination of refurbishing what you have and adding a few new parts. Maybe call this manufacturer, or keep digging.
UPDATE
Now that I look at your photo it appears that 2" is stamped on your parts and this could be the identical replacement to take parts from.
yep, it went in the scrap pile and was replaced with a 2" Harbor Freight jobby- $27There must be reasons they quit building these couplers.... But honestly for the price the economical choice is cut it off and buy a modern 2" coupler.... which are everywhere. 1 7/8" is the 16.5" tire size of the trailer world. No matter what, buy a 2".
ps I have never seen a smaller bungie. The lynch pin used today is good reason to scrap this Edsel.
EDIT if yer goal is to build a retro trailer save the hitch but if you just want to get out there and experience effortless travels..... get a new hitch.
