I'm Cool now...
I painted the center of my black hard top with Solar Flex roofing paint. You can't see it from the side of the Jeep but what a difference in inside temp!

22 days later? haha

Whoops! I adjusted some conections and sealed a few more things the other day, forgot that I had already posted it! :coffeedrink:

But, to stay on topic I am working on my own "tarp and tent pole" awning for the Jeep.

It's not from Hi lift although similar, it is the same stuff that Mac's tie downs sells but I found it at harbor freight (under the hitch hauler name or something like that) for quite a bit less, unfortunately I haven't seen it since I picked up what I got. Last I checked the rings were available but not the track. Mac's still has it

Works great, I also have it in the jeep bed on top of the tool drawer and have a couple of other places to put it if I can get some more.

Semi-related...

trust - Is that the Hi-Lift Slide-N-Lock track? How do you like it? I'm looking at that for my M101A3 trailer, but will probably be mounting it to the floor instead of the bed side rail.

THe local O'Reillys here has some similar stuff too, but I cant remember how much it was. Im looking to get a couple of the rails for my rig and some for the trailer Im going to build. eventually. :)

Here are two freebies

I reversed the sun visors so I don't have to look at the air bag death warning labels..

You can also modify the driving light realy to allow the driving light to be on with the high beams. You pull the fog lamp relay and remove the cover and put a thin piece of plastic stock (ie credit card thickness) between the relay contacts)

Do those vents come with a screen? how hard would it be to fit them with some?

Do you happen to remember which solarflex product you used ?

http://www.henry.com/Cool_Roof_Coatings.28.0.html

I think its an awesome idea...especially for us in the Desert.

My Defender is White and tall...no one would ever notice it.

Plus i see they have a paint for aluminum roofs....exactly what my truck is made out of.

Did you use a special primer ?

Anyway..thanks for the idea !

:sombrero: You're very lucky if paint on your hardtop keeps it cool inside !!

I insulated my hardtop and it stays very comfy inside, when it's 115° outside in the NorNv desert

It also keeps the heat in when it's below 0°

Yudda if your Defender is allready white I don't think it would help much.
I scrubbed the roof to make sure it was clean before applying the paint.

Henry's SolarFlex Paint (Water based elastomeric)
SolarFlex 287 SF
SolarFlex can't be beat for its cooling properties. It will reflect approximately 85% of the sun's UV rays,

They also have a silver product but it is tar based and I didn't want that on my roof.

Thanks Dan for the quick reply.

What do you all think about slipping some Reflectix in between the headliner and the roof.

From my experience Reflectix works wonders.

Also...its not expensive....I am also going to Dynamat Extreme the roof for sound deadening....maybe both combined with a thick new headliner will do the trick.

thanks again,

rob
