Homebrew Jeep Modifications(DIY)

I guess this is 'Home Brew', but using available factory parts:elkgrin:

I swapped out my drum brakes on my '99 XJ for a set of discs.

The disc brakes from a D35 ZJ will fit the Chryco 8.25 rear axle with only slight mods.

The center hole of the caliper bracket needs to be opened up a little.
I used a sanding drum on the drill press.

Other than that, you just need new bolts (8) and nylock nuts (8) to mount the caliper brackets (they are thicker than the drum brake backing plates)

Then you go from this:

My total cost: $50 for the complete brake set up (local 'U-Pull-R-Parts') and $8 for the bolts/nuts.

$58 and a few hours work (pulling the entire housing is not required) not a bad upgrade!

I added a 10" Hayden fan ($58) in front of the radiator. Doesn't seem to help with my overheating even though it seems to move plenty of air. Could be that the clog or whatever I have is just too bad. Do these pics work?

have to get some better close-ups, also drawing up an idea for a new aluminum swing-out with jerry can & hi-lift mounts.

Built a shelf/storage compartment in the back of my XJ. It's bolted in tight so items won't be flying around while wheeling. Also has tie down points on top for additional items. No more strapping down a dozen different containers and bags. Just put them in the back and close the hatch. Also comes out easy, just remove 6 bolts.

Also made a mini trunk in the rear of the TJ and made a locking Hi Lift mount on top of it. Around town topless or wheeling, things are locked up and secure. Unlock and swing out tire carrier, unlock tail gate. No other way to access what is in the trunk.

Highlift mount

Just a note to dirty jeeper. If you move the highlift to the roll bar with a couple of 5 dollar exhaust joint ubolts you can free up the space between the highlift jack and your instatrunk for fire extinguisher, and flyrods. I set mine at even height with the top of the back seat so my 10yr old wouldn't clunk into it. can't remember if they were 3 or 3.5 inch exhaust clamps.

I needed a solution for the back of the JK and did something similar to Dirty Jeeper.
The dog needed a perch and I needed storage.

I used a couple of computer brackets and a piece of marine plywood; covered it with some indoor/outdoor carpet with an old yoga mat underneath.

Jessi loves it.

A few screws and some nylon cable clamps, add some shock cord and a once useless void becomes pretty functional. Here it is holding a 2nd first aid kit, just in case.
