Homemade Trailer Couplers

Has anyone made their own coupler? The ones on the net are crazy in price for what it is. I have some plans and started my trailer and was wondering what everyone else has done.

Which units are you looking at? Honestly I don't think any of them are overpriced, expensive yes, but given the low market yeild, and the massive amout of fabrication and tooling needs, I consider them a fair price?

Yeah, the US pricing seems reasonable to me. It's just too bad for me getting anything from the US into Canada is rediculously expensive.

The price for the Lock & Rolls in my opinion seem to be good for the work that goes into them....

By the time you get all setup.....you might as well just have bought one....

This is coming from a steel fabricator/blacksmith background i work in.....

Besides sacrificing a Saturday... guess it depends on what your time is worth to you. ;) Actually, I live on the north shore of Lake Ontario, near the middle, so driving to the US is 1.5 hours each way to get around the lake. Figure in the cost of gas... etc... Not to mention you now need a passport eh?

So yeah... I have done it a few times, but it has to be a lot of stuff to make it worth it.

I scratch built mine. Works pretty good thus far. I have less than half a dozen trips on it.
