the bikes are in the $2500 range and I’m ok with new or used I want a bike that will ride the roots and rocks out here on the east coast climb well and also be burly enough to take to highland for some lift access action. The above bikes are a mix or single pivot and vpp ish rear geometry. Any thoughts on that?

I rode the roscoe out at highland and ride it on trails here a lot, for Highland tho I feel like it would need a slightly burlier fork that would slacken it out some.

These are just random ideas, but I'll throw them out there.

I work for a Giant dealer. We've sold a few close-out 2011 Reign 0 bikes. Normal MSRP is over $4400. We've sold the last two for $3200. You can pick up a Reign 1 for $2000ish. They only have a couple left.

You'd have to be quick.

Specialized Stumpjumper EVO.

I don't own a Specialized, but I love fsr links.

Our specialized rep brought his 2012 S-Works 29er full suspension spacebike to the shop for us to slobber over. Unbelievable. Holy cow was that a sweet bike. But, for ten bills, it should be.

Is the space bike you're referring to the the sworks 29'er epic? If so probably abit to short of travel for the original posters liking.

It's been easy to drop 10k on a road bike since Di2 came out, and now mtb's are catching up, again.

That was the rig. It's still weird to see "Roval" on those wheels. I won a set of Rovals at a crit in Boston in '86. Why Specialized used that name is weird to me.

I was going to say Santa Cruz blurr long travel but those are probably to pricey. What are you currently riding and what do you like and dislike about it? I know I like short chain stays, steep head tubes and high bottom brackets. Specialized pitch is a great value but you may find the classic specialized geometry to have a bottom bracket that is low resulting in frequent strikes. All mountain is still just an industry buzz word to me since I have seen very different bikes in terms of geometry and burliness of parts get this label. I have seen stuff with XTR bits and steep 71 deg head angles called am and also stuff with 68 deg head angles and saint, which are imho two very different things. Having the right geometry and specs for how you ride is priceless. I know lots of folks who do not brake stuff and can run stans olympic rims. If I stare at a set of those wheels cross eyed they will bend.
