Importing

If a guy wanted to import a defender. Where would he start? What would it cost?

Which model defenders can you import? What years are Best to import? Which can you not import?

Are there threads or guys with experience or connections on finding a defender?

Any help or advice is welcomed.

I am not a mechanic so importing a box of parts and building one is not an option. :)

Must be at least 25 years old, original engine, chassis, You don't want to attempt anything else now. Check here: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/

and here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...-raided-by-homeland-security-(North-Carolina)
Pay particular attention to posts by Doug at Dividing Creek

You'll need to find one already in the states if you're looking for something "special"

MOD sales may occasionally have something that old and "restored" and documented in their Tithonus program that will be importable. http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicles/,25,/Used_Land_Rovers.htm

It'll cost around $2500-3200 to get one here.

Google importing defender into the USA

Also search the What's Legal thread on defendersource.com

This topic is dealt with on a weekly basis, if you search around a little you will find your answers.

Wow that is a lot to absorb.

It's hard to know what is not legal. So, even if I buy one from someone here in the US there is a chance that there could be trouble if the motor has been modified...

Its scary. Maybe I'll just find a land cruiser :(

Himalaya4x4 ate the sweetest things I've ever seen in my life. Ever! Just a little out of my price range currently.

Shipping one isn't the issue the op is worried about. I have a considerable history with Mark and his trucks and will share them offline if someone is considering one.

There are a number for sale on defender source.com at any given time. Both here in the us and abroad.
Defends on what you want, and budget.

I imported a 110 earlier this year all-by-myself. Easy peasy. It's not nearly as difficult as all the "importers" would have you believe.
