Is Cook Partner the best? Money vs. Quality

I'm sure the quality oif a Partner far exceeds a Coleman, but on the other hand a stove is a stove. I've had my coleman for twenty years and it is just fine. Guess it just depends where ya wanna put your cash.:Wow1:

Whatever, get it and be proud of it!:wings:

i'll tell ya my train of thought here,,,, the cook partner is a waste of money for vehicle based camping simply because all that money is spent on the housing,,, a housing that for the car camping world equates to throwing the stove from your rig to the earth where your camp is being set up and always stowing and transporting it on your roof rack in all kinds of weather.

its a great stove if thats how you treat your equipment when you car camp, otherwise its money you could spend elsewhere.

It will live in a trailer if that helps.. but I see your point. I find that crying only once will keep me from crying due to failure later. I should just stick with a coleman but it may be to late for that. You never know when you have to beat a bear with a camp stove. My MSR whisperlite not to efficient as fending off bear though it makes one hell of a flameball :).

In a very real sense this is exactly the question: USA or China?

With that said, Rhino does make a good point. The Partner is definitely overkill for much vehicle-based camping. But then, you can't appreciate that unless you've suffered with a product that was underkill for its application . . .

For sure, if you get the Partner you'll never have to worry about buying another stove, and it will become a treasured tool.

If you have the room, the 18-inch stove allows you to use larger pots. As has been said, Partner solved the too-wide spacing of the grill bars over the burners (after our winter 07 review, I'm proud to say), so we can now use, for example, our small espresso maker on it.

This is the same thing I am going through right now too.
I am thinking of the 18" Partner, or the new Denali by Campchef as seen here.

I certainly will not be throwing my stove around.
It will be taken out of my rig and placed on top of the Cabelas kitchen unit I use.

I only wish the Partners had the piezo starter on them like the other cheaper stoves.
It does come in very handy, and if they do fail (in all my years of camping I have never had one fail) you can always use a lighter.

A friend (BlueHZT60 - Bob) of mine in Bend, OR; has the CP which is hinged so the two burners fold into each other, nice and neat. An older model perhaps with the wide grill, but it works great. He has had it for quite a few years and as Jonathan says it will be there long after you are finished with it. You get what you pay for.

People have to remember a few things:
  • For most of us this is our primary hobby/sport, relax, down time activity. As such, you might want to consider buying the best for your situation, have a cry about the price and then enjoy for the rest of your life.
  • Anther factor few seem to remember is we travel to some pretty remote areas/locations and having good quality gear might mean the difference of life and death one day (I hope not), if not just the comfort of knowing everything will work when you need it to.

Life is to short to keep gong back to Wal-Mart (or other) and getting more cheap gear! Aren't you worth something nice and with quality?

to elaborate on my previous post, i totally agree with the whole buy quality instead of crap and i am all about it, but you also have to look at the whole picture of a product. cook partner was built for a specific purpose, thst purpose was not car camping. those burners are off the shelf units and not any better than any other quality stove.
if your deal is to have a rough and tumble stove that will LOOK great for eons the cook partner is your choice,,, if your deal is simply to have a quality stove there are many choices out there including the cook partner, thats all i'm saying.

canuck,,, i'm not sure but i think you dissed every $20 craigslist vintage 30 yr old coleman stove that still look and function perfectly:sombrero:.

seriously though, my stove needs are different and i use a camp chef sport ute. i just like to stick out there as the voice of reason in a sea of band xyz owners trying to justify the expense. i see it way to much around here. cook partner is a great stove, but if you dont need that housing there are other quality choices. i dont know anything about the denali line from camp chef, but if they follow in the camp chef quality they should really be something to consider.

I think if one looked after any gear quite well (maintenance, storage, cleaning etc.) and likely any rig (domestic or import) they would all last much longer than we really needed or wanted them to last.

Hmm so it's likely most of our gear will outlive us, scary! That freezer fridge has been eyeballing my spot in the bed.
