Looks awesome that was the fastest refurb post LOL. Also I like that you didn't forget the bottle opener :luxhello:

thanks, Its not a kitchen without the bottle opener..lol
yah, I like the pace of this too..lol

WILLMAN- do you mean how I keep it closed?
let me know and I'll take some pics for ya.
thanks again for the nice comments.

REZARF- I like the matador very well- the light prizm to very wide area without blinding unless you just stare it it..
the mounting is kinda cheezy- I trimed it, painted it black and welded it to the rack-I also soldered a male power adapter that I insert into the battery box for portability.
Its seems as though I always get to camp at night and its nice to be able to flip a switch and get your camp set up.
Also works great if nature calls in the middle of the night...
I also have a couple of Hella's on my yakima rear cross-bar I use when I go kayaking and have to load the boats up at night-maybe I got a bit of "lights fetish"..lol

willman, per your request this picture shows the lid drwan tight via over the center latch to which I bent the adjustmet rod to fit the angles between the lid and the trailer tub. as well, you can spot the latch the applies pressure on the tailgate against the tub, thus preventing rattles and keeps tight seal as well.
cheers!

Thanks for the shot!

Are you using any type of locking (hasp, key lock, and etc..) to keep people out?

Izzy-

How did you get the steering arm tool to work with your rivet nuts? I have been looking at the tools and zoiks! they are $$$$$.

I'd love to hear how you made them work with something on hand bud.

Thanks!

Drew-I told you the tool was mucho dinero!!
even for the smaller nutsert they wanted something like $100 just for that baby.
The tool I have used is a high quality power steering PUMP pulley installer- I believe you can rent them from Checkers
auto parts(I hate that place..lol) or ask your local favorite mechanic what kind of beer he likes, and ask him to borrow it for an hour or two..lol

the large washer is not a part of the tool, it's designed to prevent the nutsert from coming up from the rail as you tighten up the threaded shaft.
the way it works is drill your hole to provide tight clearance for the nutsert, tighten the threaded shaft until all the 'sert threads are used, cinch the nut and washer tight against the flush surface of the 'sert and then tighten up the threaded shaft untill tight(much like a toggle anchor bolt).
hope it helped.

Thanks bud,

My local hardware shop has the install tool tucked away in the electrical section collecting dust, I asked about it today and walked out with one for 26 bones... score. It came with 5 mandrels so we will see how it goes. They said I could bring it back if I don't like it.

thanks again man.

About how much weight do you think you will max gross? Are you/have you supplemented the leaf springs? I am thinking of either using coil over shocks or overload air bags on mine. Are you planning to reattach the parking brake? I am gointg to use the spare mount from under my buddy's hilux for he same spare mount area.

Welcome to Nevadafornia
Definitely not as slick as those nutserts, but for a budget build I would imagine the same thing could be achieved by drilling a hole and welding a nut flush with the rail...

Love the build.

MOGAS,
I did not have a chance to weigh the trailer fully loaded but my guess is that I'm pushing my limits, however I think that I will improve the suspension via air suspension
bags and or air shocks-I have an ARB onboard compressor in my LC which could come handy on the trail in that respect.
No on the brakes- with the rear jacks i can practically lift the wheel of the ground and choke the front tounge wheel . I carry 2 tire stops and a dougnut stop for the front with me but hardly have the need to use 'em being that I always try to camp at a level spot.
I would love to see your set up when you get it done.
you would love the spare mounting under- low COG, takes no valuable space and offer peace of mind if you have to use other vehicle to tow your trailer and not have to worry about same bolt pattern.

Izzy, how did you mount your AT can holders? I am toying with that now, and I can't get them mounted in a way that still allows me to unlock the accompanying tie-down strap/plate to remove the gas can. The strap has to lift up, and without being able to clear the upper edge of the trailer, i can't see you you could ever get a can in and out of it.

Any insight you can provide would be helpful.

The prior pictures show the actual mounting- nothing new, as far as the locking latch/strap, at first I thought about modifying the curved hinged side-i.e cuting the lip and drilling a hole for a clevise type pin, that way the whole latch would have moved straight forward-no clearance issues, however I found out that the strap is very springy and does allow you to lift/twist enough to clear the angled edge of the trailer, and still retain the original shape.
hoped it helped.

Izzy, love the build! It's sweet! That topper frame is nice and really adds to the room on the trailer. I love the rear latches but can you lock them? If not, how do you have the rear locked down?

Thanks,
yes, the top frame does a great job of increased storage capacity, and also is great for hauling things such as firewood and trash- stuff you don't want in your truck or trailer interiors.
as far as the locking method- look at post #38, on the top
right corner of the tail gate you will notice the slide lock and steel tab welded on- just a simple pad lock then does the job.
the latches are just to keep the gate and lid from rattling.
hope I answered your question.
