It looks even better in person! I have just one question for you though: Since you're coming down home stretch with all the big mods for this rig/set-up and it's almost the way you want it...what are you looking at for your next rig?

Not to try and start anything but what is everyone's fascination with H2 rims?

Primarily price.

They are the cheapest, 17x8.5" aluminum rim with the correct offset that you can get. Usually anywhere from $200-400 for a set (sometimes with tires for that price).

Besides, 17's are becoming the rim size of the future for most tire sizes.

Sliders/Steps done

After a little over a week of little work here and there, with a lot of help from my buddy Matt (bender, notcher and skill) and especially my wife, the sliders are done. I originally was going to go with a much heavier tubing and design, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea. Too much weight and too difficult for me to handle during the fabrication/installation process. I also realized that these are more for the oops, than everyday rockcrawling and my wife needed the step to help get in and out. I am pretty happy with the outcome, it took a lot of measuring and crawling in and out from under the truck and of course welding.

Enough talk, let's show some pictures.

Here are the first bends and lay out.

Tubes notched

My wife grinding the edges of the notching

Starting to look like a slider.

They needed some metal to keep you from stepping through them and to make them more effective as a step.
Oh and I decided to add some seam sealer on the underside of the tubes/metal

Both sealed and drying

Test fit and measuring for the "legs"

I decided to use Durabak spray can bed liner on them so that there was some grip and hopefully it will hold up to road spray.

The final product

The are the perfect height and distance sticking out for use as a step, but not so much that they are in the way when getting out.

Looks good Jack. I know you know this, but D- is so cool. Out there running the grinder and more... What is the O.D. of the tube you went with? How much room do you think you have between the camper jacks and your flares?

I have very little room between my bed and camper jacks.

Thanks everyone, I am pretty proud of them.

I know, she is awesome. She was a tremendous help, she did a lot of grinding, cleaning up, lifting, coating, tool passing, etc.

I used 1.5" OD, .120 wall tubing. I could have gone heavier and if these prove to be too fragile, I will, but I think everything will be allright.

Ummm, I have no room. :Wow1:

After putting the flares on, I went to load the camper and the jacks wouldn't clear the flares. Because I was half way through the process, I braced the rear of the camper while D backed/forced the truck under the camper. I will have to space the camper legs out when I got to remove the camper.

Nice Work Jack.

Even without flares there isn't much space between my bed and camper jack!
But I sure like how narrow the FWCs are.
