Hello, I’m new to the forum, to start I have just got done building and restoring my cj7. Love everything about the Jeep. Still many things to do to it but for know I’m enjoying it as my daily driver.

It has the inline 6 with a 5 speed t5 transmission. Putting 410 gears in the rear with a limited slip (hopefully this summer) to gear it down so I can use 5th gear.... and make have some more power.

Campaigned a 7 for some decades. It worked very well, before and especially, after modification.
The T-5 in spite of its reputation for being light duty is one of my favorite trannys... never had a problem with mine (other than the fact that it was worn out and noisy when I first put it in.
Depending on the tire size 4.10 gears may not be enough.
Also liked the 258 engine even though the weight is somewhat limiting (the later, end of production, units seem to generate more power & rpm than the earlier ones), 'though the carburetor tends to suck on steep inclines (multi-point injection worked(s) best for me).
