Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

Just measured my garage. Floor to the lowest portion of the raised door is 6' 9". The Habitat and 37"s combo are out of the picture for me.
As a reference, my stock Rubicon with a softtop measured 6'.

How much would it cost to drop the driveway into the ground or modify the garage door opening?

:costumed-smiley-007 "GARAGE? We don't need no stinking GARAGE!" :costumed-smiley-007

Is that garage or is that gá"r"age? This is not the place to do it, but does someone want to start up a conspiracy thread on garages - Is there an effort by the gov't underway to limit the size of garages per car to limit your ability to hide and protect equipped, high-clearance vehicles (think armed, equipped overlander in a bugout situation)? I would NOT be surprised.

More than some long travel air bags! BAG IT!!! Make entry easier too:elkgrin:

Set it on the stops when your parked. Use it to level for comfy sleeping in your new Habitat. Its a win win.

The Habitat adds 6 inches. I'd be interested in hearing what other people are thinking in terms of changes for handling heavier bumpers, winches, progressive springs for cargo, etc., and still getting the Habitat to fit in most garages. Between the J8 and the Nemo we've got some pretty good benchmarks to shoot between.

My current plan is to stick with the stock Rubicon 32" tires, and either add an OME lift to compensate for the extra weight and get the belly of the JK a little more off the ground or go with the AEV 2" coil lift if that ever hits the market any time soon.

I have the OME heavy springs in front and light in back, with a set of heavy load (300 lb rated I believe) ready to swap in the rear. Also using a 1/2" spring spacer on the right rear to help level it out as the JK 4 doors sag with a full gas tank. I have a 1" spacer ready if needed along with the heavy springs. Bumpers are AEV and I have the 9.5ti up front as well. I already have some idea of how things will sit with the Habitat since I have had a hard top with a Simpson 3 mounted on top of a full rack, which isn't far from what the Habitat weighs. I'm running with the AT storage system - fridge/stove slide and the drawer are in place, waiting on stage 2 for water storage which I will pump to the rear of the JK. Just mounted up a propex heater in the trunk and ducted up through the drawer storage box with a vent on top so the JK is nearly ready for the Habitat whenever that is ready for prime time. I hope this summer.

Wow. Sounds awesome. Any pictures of the propex installed? Your Jeep sounds pretty similar to what I have envisioned for my own.

Here are a few pics of the install. Top vent grill pops off so if needed I can add a quick vent tube extension to put heated air right up into the tent area.

Very nice job KB7! You got me excited about the project again. I am really bummed after the update letter for the Habitat. (couple more months delay in production and more for the Nemo tent:mad::mad: )
I see the exhaust is different. Did you do a motor swap or just exhaust? Getting that muffler out of the way helps. I am doing the Hemi swap soon (as soon as I sell the FJR bike.) the exhaust will be moved and I am planning on putting the house battery in the "trunk" area. Now I might have to see if there is room for both some way.
Two questions. Was there not room to go out the forward side wall of your trunk instead of down? And did you have to shorten the drawer inside to get that hose through or was there that much wasted space? Really neat!
Oh yea, is that a tuffy trunk?

Ditto on everything you stated about the latest delays! Maybe early adopters can be fast tracked on the Nemos to get more Habitats out in the field for summer. We'll see.

Exhaust is Magnaflow via Cooltech LLC. It drops several lbs and gets that factory muffler out of the way. Nice tone in my opinion, not loud but more substantial than stock. Still have the 3.8 and not really interested in the Hemi.

Thanks for the feedback. Warrior Products drop in and rivet trunk is about twice the volume of the stock so other than cutting out the old one, a fairly plug and play install vs. something more custom like the J8 battery box or what you may be planning. The sway bar is close to the front although with a custom box there is some room to expand outward a bit. The pre-fabbed drop in makes it easy.

Originally the space was intended for water storage as I already have dual batteries under the hood, but then after some additional thought the space seemed perfect for the Propex. Trunk volume was calculated to only be about 7 gal so not much water capacity anyway.

I had AT fabricate the drawer 3" shorter than the cabinet which is still plenty long for good storage without sacrificing much space. This made it easy to route the 2.5" high temp silicon hose through the back of the drawer box. Note that the black with yellow striped hose was replaced after feedback from Martyn at AT that it would break down. The red/orange stuff is rated 550F, intermittent 600F (pricey but good).

Now with stage 2 on order I get to play with routing the water fill and tap points up near the right rear roll bar area then will have the attachments through the Habitat in the area above the tailgate. At least this is the plan, subject to change.

Do post some pics as your build progresses and good luck with the Hemi! It's great to read and see unique ideas unfold.

Hey Wade,
I went back and read the earlier post and answered several of my questions. I won't have room under the hood for the second battery, so that trunk area is my best option for low center of gravity.
I too plan on doing the entire habitat storage/water system, but i had not thought of the heater. My first thought is putting it inside the front storage compartment OR above the wheel well on that side. Haven't looked yet. Hate to use up the storage for the heater, but having tucked away and secure might be worth it. Plus it would muffle the noise! Like yours does too.
With the delay of the tent, I think I will do the motor swap first, then the storage stuff, then be ready for the Nemo tent in Jan/Feb. I won't be camping in the winter so even if it's March I'll be good.
I'm not buying two tents...
Yea, I like your idea of the water fill outside too. We will for sure have stuff stacked up on top the these storage boxes. So being able to pull up somewhere and get water without unpacking is sweet. Good call.
I have a set of switches up front (with relays and fuses under the hood, they also run my extra lights) that I will use for the water pump. It's really a safety thing for the water pump because it goes on and off with pressure anyway.

I've been following this thread daily hoping for updates, sorry to hear it sounds like there may be some delays for you guys!

I'm not familiar with the layout of your JK, but there are options for dual batteries in a Hemi JK...here is one of them - Jeep Hemi JK dual battery kit. I'm not affiliated with JSS, nor can I speak to customer service or their products personally. Many people seem to be happy with them, but YMMV.

Thanks for the heads up Ron. That tray only holds standard batteries, which wouldn't be horrible. But I want to do the AGM 31 for the jeep and that or bigger for the house battery. Only one of those will fit under the hood.
I had no idea they were doing the Hemi swap. Jeep Speed Shop uses the truck engine. I already have the motor out of an 07 Dodge Magnum that AEV uses.

I assumed there was a very good reason why you knew dual batteries weren't an option for you...

Can anyone elaborate, or is there a place that the rest of the perspective buyers can hear from A/T on the updated timeline?

The short version; for those that plopped down a deposit Mario sent an update. The Habitat will be ready for production in about 8 weeks (now 7?) but the Nemo tent won't be ready until Jan/Feb. So if you don't want to wait then you get the tent similar to what is on the white jeep on their web page. I'm waiting.... and waiting.... and.....
or you can pay for the Nemo when it's available, and that's why I said I'm not buying two tents.

I suspect AT will chime in soon. Here's my take...

Despite news that may not necessarily be of the kind we want to hear, I continue to have a huge appreciation for the fact that we do receive direct communication from AT. I also appreciate the fact that we have witnessed a small company and its partners birth a new product knowing very well they risked issues like delays, rework, unforseen challenges, etc. I'm not affiliated with AT other than as a customer, nor do I necessarily agree with everything they do or say. However, I do trust them based on a few years of positive interactions that include owning a Horizon trailer and advice when I was not even considering their products. They also openly seek ideas and opinions. I realize we all have our limits on the waiting game - maybe some other options will unfold for the early adopters. I'm not entirely opposed to considering an interim "tent" option but would like to see that first. If I did want to upgrade to the Nemo later I would want to know it will work and what is involved (cost, is it self installable, if not labor cost, turnaround time, extent of any major mods to retrofit, etc.). If I knew the shell was ready to deliver today vs. 8 weeks (7?) or whenever, I might be inclined to enjoy the ride 6 months early (maybe longer if you add reasonable time for Nemo delivery to AT, installation, new problems, etc. to be ironed out). Certainly a tough decision - a Garvin Wilderness Rack with an Autohome tent has crossed my mind more than once. I sure would like to hear some ideas from other early adopters. When the Nemo is ready, if I could sell a used interim tent to someone who wanted to save some $$ off the Nemo version so that I could recover some expense as an early adopter to use on a Nemo purchase, I just might be willing to do that.
