JK/J8 Flippac rumor??

Cool. If I had my long desired JK I would try hard to convince my wife that this is what we NEED. Sadly that will not happen for a few more months (if I am lucky) so I guess I have to hope there will be a second production run on these things.

Damn! I should've tried this route! Unfortunately, I went with the "I admit it's a WANT, not a NEED, but if I work some overtime and sell my soft- and hardtops" angle instead, and she countered with the "We need new carpet, we need to put some money towards college, we need ... " move and, for the time being, successfuly blocked any further action on buying one of the first 8. The door's still open for further discussion, though, depending on what Uncle Sam decides to give back.

I am extremely hopeful AT will have additional production runs down the line. Perhaps Mario and Martyn will take pity on those of us who would buy one NOW, if we only could, and offer one of the tops as a raffle prize at the Overland Expo? Who knows, a couple of $100 tickets and a "Honey, look what I won!" just might make it a reality.:victory:

I can't wait to eventually pick-up a Jeep J8 and throw one of these flippaks on there. Woohoo!

Now I just need to get the money for a J8...

I love the flip idea on a pickup truck. My buddy had a similar setup - a Wilderness camper on a Taco and he said it was ok. The really big downside is you still need to break camp and fold everything up if you want to do some exploring or if you have to go someplace. My friend was camping alone out in the wilderness hunting and some dude drove into his camp - he'd got a buck down and wasn't able to track it. My friend had to break camp down, pack everything up, then drive across the national forest trying to help this dude track the wounded buck, got that done, then had to drive all the way back to his camp and set everything back up. Just a pain in the butt.

Also, I don't see the major advantage of this JK Flippac over a roof rack and an car top tent, or even an off-road tent trailer for that matter. In a pickup, you've got the rear bed access, but in a Jeep how is that going to work? You've got roll bars, seats and all sorts of obstacles.

do what I did!!!

we had an 08 ( bought in 07) wrangler I bought to make her mad..(and I wanted it...and got RAPED on the intrest)....

well in may...we discovered we were having TWINS!!

the 2dr only has 4 seatbelts...so we HAD to get an unlimited....

and got a much better rate...so my payment actually WENT DOWN for the 4dr!!

so...have a kiddo....then have TWINS...and the 4dr is a NECESSITY!!!:wings::victory:

That is funny. We are actually looking at either a four door taco or a four door unlimited. The Flippak for the taco my wife is ok with, if I sell my old CJ-7 for the right price. However, this would be a super nice thing. The biggest deal for me comes in where I am very seriously considering a move to AK. SO... The drive back to CA just to pick this thing up would be another grand on top of the $4400 price tag... sigh

Make that 4...
I PM'ed him the same night that posted about it... but he said LJ were limited production and it would be cost prohibitive.

I will take one, once the photos come out of the JK. I just want to see what the finished product will look like.
:wings:

Make that 5. I want/need a hardtop anyways. I really wish I didn't have so much money tied up in my LJ...

Updates?

I want (need) more information on this. Can we get an update? Maybe some pre production photos or even a CAD drawing? PLease... my imagination can only hold me over for so long.

Can't wait for this product to be released!

I'm working on the photographs, should have something in the next few days.

No CAD drawings, but Expo members will be the first to get updates on this project when they become available.

lost, but making time
Martyn,
Those renditions look amazing.
Looking at the photos, I think you have touched on a whole new market with this, especially if it can be adapted to similar vehicles.
Wow, is right.
