Mark, have you had any issues with water/dirt/dust getting into the cargo body?
I don't suppose you've gotten the chance to drive at highway speeds in the rain?

The trailer sees regular trips between Pittsburgh and Erie Pa.
The cover keeps the rain and snow out but I do get some water in through the tailgate gap.
I will water proof it when the camp kitchen is made.

The trailer is perfect and rides great behind the truck.

Weld up the tailgate and just cut the part put for the slide outs in the rear. The metal is
thin enough you should be able to cut it out with a small air cutter, or torch. Just an idea.

Funny story today,
I sell stuff on Craigslist I had a primitive cupboard listed and had a gentleman
and his son in law come view it. When he got here the first question he asked was
What is that trailer you have in the drive way? Well I spent the better part of a half hour talking about my trailer.

He did buy the cupboard and we loaded it up in his truck. I then told him on thursday I was driving to Virginia to
pick up a second model. He said he would be back by to see the progress.

Battery in the tongue box. charged whild in transit from the truck.
solar charger when parked. post some pictures of the top.

Hey Mark - I picked up a trailer recently and was thinking of doing this exact thing for a couple of batteries. Are you going to use an isolator and just have some kind of quick disconnect at the tongue? I think long term I might even have a generator that could power everything or charge the batteries like a regular RV, but it would be great to charge them off the truck while in motion.

Very nice work. I am jealous because your making much better progress than I am on mine. I was thinking the same thing for the hot water. I want to try and find a tank I can mount under the trailer though or at the very least as far forward as possible.

I had the 1 x 2 steel tubing cut for my Poor mans RTT frame today.
two Cross bars 7' across and 30" off the side of the tub. I have drawn up plans for a 7' x 7' rack on top
for my tent to perch on. It will lift up on one side and pull the pins to remove it.

I'm headed out on thursday to pick up the M116 trailer I bought last week on ebay.

I have been drawing up plans for a chuck box "Camp Kitchen" That would fit all of my cooking items in one location.
Plywood was my first thought, Then aluminum but diamond plate around Pittsburgh is $150.00 a 4 x 8 sheet. I was on my second favorite shopping site
Ebay being the first " right Don" Craigslist my close second. I found an ad that was posted on April 30th for a diamond plate top rail box.

It looked interesting and not a bad price so I shot an email asking if it was still available. It was and I went to see it. The box measures 47" wide 18 1/2" tall and 16" deep. a drop down door on the front with cable stays. I took my Coleman stove with me to check for clearance. It fit perfect.

I talked him down to $75.00, It will be perfect build for my camp kitchen.
This week I will cut some cardboard for templates then make shelves, dividers and drawers out of 1/8" aluminum.
On the insude of the door I am thinking a full width counter top.

It will be used on both trailers and in the truck for beach trips.
Shoot me some ideas and what your thoughts are.

Mark:

You may recall that I recently built a galley using a similar truck box. The first big potential drawback is the loss of space if you build the dividers and THEN slide it into the truck box.
Your box looks to have a 2" return around the front of the box. IF you can find a way the build the galley within the box you could maximize the space within - I couldn't figure out how to
realistically do that. How do you plan on building with the diamond plate - do you have the ability/tools to weld aluminum? Lastly, what I did was carefully select the things I wanted to store
in it and designed around those items - namely my primary 2-burner stove, 2 backup single burner stoves, coleman fuel cans. The primary stove went the the left with an adjustable shelf
over it for pots/pans and the backup stoves (stacked one over the other) on the right. Then I worked with the space in the middle to create cubbies and drawers for plates/bowls/cups/cutlery.
Let me know if you have any questions - I spent this past winter's weekends playing around with the thing and considered alot of different things when I built mine...

Your galley was my inspiration to find a bed rail box like this, Love your Galley!
as luck would have it I work at a large sign and fab shop Bunting Graphics Inc. I have an unlimited supply of aluminum steel and acrylic.
I plan on making a mock up with card board and then shear all the pieces out of 1/8, 1/16" aluminum and weld it together with a spool gun.
This will give me solid shelves and dividers.

I have been collecting cook wares since last Fathers day when I towed my trailer home last year for this build.
Stove, cast iron skillet, Pots, Pans, Ikea stainless steel utensils, flat ware, RED plates, cups, bowels, mixing bowels, red snap tight containers Clear bases,
sealed spice jars, and a coffee press.

I told my wife I was going to use the dining room table and lay the shelf design out. "She said what ever just finish it so we can get camping"

Edward: Great ideas and thanks for the inspiration. Is that corian solid surface as your prep table?

Continentaldrifter: Thanks for the suggestion, as I recall aluminum does shed, Once it is all welded up I will be painting it a light interior color.
