Hi guys I was wandering if I could get some info on a 95 Discovery that I am thinking about purchasing.

First I will list the reason for the purchase.
I want to get a vehicle that I can take out to the local OHV park and "wheel". I want a vehcile that will fit my 2 kids myself and our camping gear. I dont want to be worried about scrathing up the vehicle which is why I am looking at a used vehicle not new. This vehicle will not be used for any long drives or expeditions, I am building an F250 for that.

SO, to my questions.
I found a 1995 LandRover Discovery I SE with 220K miles for $2250. It comes with these features:
Automatic
Tan leather interior
Tan Carpet
Factory Six Disc CD Changer (Pioneer)
Cell Phone speaker system (Audiovox)
Alarm system
Power Windows
Power Locks
Power Steering
Power Mirrors
Cruise Control
Dual Airbag
Dual sun roofs
Rear fold out Jump seats
Cargo cover
Alloy wheels
Five new tires
New shocks (not installed)
Tow package
Was recently serviced by Discovery Automotive
All electrical components are in working order

Do you guys think that the milage is to high? Are these vehicles easy to work on or do they require a certified mechanic to fix?

any help would be appreciated

These trucks are easy to work on and I don't think 220k miles is to to high if it has been taken care of. Now the price is a little high though because I just picked up a 99 Discovery with 100k miles for 3k yesterday.

I was thinking of talking him down to 1500. From the looks of the pics the truck is very well taken care of. I am going to go look at it tommorow. preferably I would prefer to buy one for less mile but will see when I look at it.

just talked to him and he said that he will take 2k and thats the lowest he will go. He says he just had it inspected at a landrover dealership and that it is in excellent mechanicla condition.

Perhaps you should look to another discovery; with 220k, if you're looking to wheel it, you're going to have some problems. Especially if you have your children in the car, you can pick up something with half the miles for near the same price.

yeah I think I am going to pass on it. I will just look around and find one with alot less miles.

easily 3-5x what the truck is worth, not including labor.

When looking at older and high mile trucks my thoughts are to stay away from as much of the Extras as you can.

Jump seats usually mean rear air, more weight, troublesome pipes.
Sunroofs usually cause headaches (or wet heads)
Power seats can be fiddly too
Alas you won't find one here with manual windows.
I try to avoid trucks in which someone or some shop has messed with the stereo.
I like them Bone stock to be sure. Having a boatload of new parts doesn't hurt but it's not worth paying extra for as it seems that with many a new Rover owner they start modding right away because the car is so pleasant and capable they completely forget about the "trail rig" out back of the garage.

Disco's came loaded, my 97 SD had a Sticker of $42k so it had to have all the power stuff.
I love mine, they've been quite reliable and abused a lot! The usual gremlins have known and simple fixes. Add up all the extras and you get end up with more "unusual Gremlins"

Windows can be converted to manual for $60 per window. I'm seriously thinking of doing mine, as the rear ones have quit working again.

FWIW when I bought my Disco they were asking something like $12,000 (this was in 2001). I was really interested, but didn't want to pay that. So I got them to agree that I would pay $11,500, provided it didn't need more than $1,000 worth of repairs (I'd done a cursory inspection myself and saw faults). This was a signed contract and I left him with a $1000 cashiers check. I went and had it inspected and of course the place listed something like $2500-$3000 worth of needed work, mostly oil leaks that required removing the gearbox etc. at $90/hr labor.
When I went back I said, sorry, here's the statement, I'll take my check back and be out of your way. They really didn't want to give back the check so I got it for something like $9500.

People are reluctant to give back cash in hand.

The owner of the disco just called and said he sold it. I will keep all suggestions in mind though. I will continue to look for a lower milage truck that I can enjoy for what I want it for.

By the way I found another disco its a 97 with 6 inch lift and 35 tires. It also has a rebuilt engine on it. Thats all the inof I have on it right now, still waitng for the owner to email me back with all the responses to my questions.

Agreed, there are times when mine, with 32's and a 2.5 rte becomes tiring for a DD.

I know you have but I'll ask. Have you gone in an resoldered the connections on your window ECU? I did that years ago (along with replacing the plastic rollers on the regulators with bronze) and I've not had a problem in years.

That said who are you picking up munual regulators from and you would probably know, are the later RRC regulators the same?

6"s? Even I would avoid that much lift and personally I like 3" with 35's and will remain there when I go to 37"s this year.
