Leaf Suspension Tech - Planning for my 04' Tundra

CBI makes a shackle flip kit for the 2nd gen Tacoma's. It's not on there website, but saw it in a video they post of their black truck they are building. Maybe it will work for the tundras? Here's a link to another kind of flip kit so you see. CBIs is fully adjustable.

Yah the armor tech one is nice. Just not sure how easily it would bolt up to our tapered rear frames. CBI adjustable one sounds interesting?

If ya post it on TW, post the link here please

Will do.

I'll admit I'm leaning heavily to the 63's. Fairly cheap to get me going and if I don't like the weight capacity I can always get a custom 63" pack built later on. I have my truck booked in at The Gear Shop here in Calgary in a few weeks to start putting a plan together.

Well I flexed out my Tundra today, and the first time my shock maxed out with the shackle about the same angle as yours. I removed the lower bolt, and this is where it maxed out.

Another shot. I am planning on moving the lower mount up about 3" on the axle, and while thinking about this, I began to wonder if the shock on the other wasn't binding up the lower bushing. I may have to look at this again next week, and flex the truck out with the bolts removed from both sides.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Definitely more shackle angle going on there.... looks a lot more normal. I'm going to try and duplicate your results this weekend with my shocks unbolted.

Just when I was about to pull the trigger on the 63's...

What leafs do you have ?

I have a mix of stock, and OME. I orginally just used and extra leaf for the 07+ Tundra that was cut down to fit. I recently removed a couple more stock leaves, and added in 3 leaves from some OME 05+ Tacoma packs. It seems to work, although I have not loaded it down yet.

I am going to check clearances to see if there is enough room to mount the shocks outboard of the frame, maybe have the lower mount attach to my u-bolt plate. Something similar to the pic of the Taco above.

I checked mine breifly for this same purpose but I think it would be difficult to have externally mounted shocks with the Tundra. I'm running 3.5" BS and I don't think I would have enough space with a shock in there.... Partly because of the 35's though.

I do figure you could relocate the existing upper shock mounts though and gain about 3" without going into the bed. I want to get rid of the stud shocks and run eye-eye. I figure a 12" stroke Fox with a compressed length of ~20" will fit without going into the bed. I am also going to relocate the lower shock mounts slightly lower on the axle if I need to in order to make the 12" stroke shock work. But none of this matter at all unless I can get the droop I'm after. haha

I think I'm just destined for the 63's.

I know the Chevy's are cheap, but if I'm going to a longer spring I think the 07+ Tundra springs may work well. If I remember correctly they are 65" long.

now I wouldnt mind using Tundra leafs on a Tundra!! wonder if they would flex better and bolt up the stock location (want to keep rear inverted shackle and just weld a new front mount

It would depend on if the center pin is offset or not. My "guess" would be relocating both mounts. I'll take some measurements on Monday of the 07+ leafs.

True. Even 63" is pretty long though, your front mount will already be so far forward and is already at risk of becoming a hang up point. But it's only 2" I guess.

Lots of documentation on the 63's though and the Tundra leafs would be uncharted territory to some degree. My plan if I go 63's is to use the junkyard leafs at first and get the mounting setup and later buy the Deaver 63's if I need to tune the weight capacity and droop. No more chevy on the yota at that point! haha

Interested to see your 2nd Gen Tundra info regardless. I'm always game for OE parts.

so I looked at the 07+ springs, and the center pin seems to be centered. Rough measurements looks like the front, and rear mount would need to be moved 3-4". The front mount would have to be incorporated into the body mount bracket. I will be checking to see if the shocks create any bind later today.

Cool thread, good info. I read the Tundra springs were 2.375" wide, just like the 2nd gen Tacoma's, can a Tundra owner confirm?

Yes they're both the same at 2 3/8" or 60mm. Nissan Titan's are also the same. According to SD Truck Springs specs Titan springs are only 1/16th of an inch shorter from front hanger to center pin. Exact same from center to rear. And they also have an extra ~1/2" of arch. I'm not sure if you'll really notice any difference from using the stock Titan springs, but if you were combining packs, using some from a Titan sounds like an option.
