I ran 37x12.50s on 17x8.5 wheels for about 2 years. The tires were Load D range

I recently changed to 37x13.50s on 20x10 this summer......the currently tires are Load E range

The truck feels MUCH MORE stable and solid, but the tire/wheel combo also weighs a decent amount more

The 10 ply's perform way better on full size vehicles for sure. I would not use D rated on a full size if you have a choice.

Okay,

I've been looking at those beadlocks. How are they working? What lift and what size tires are you running? My Excursion is on a ReadyLift 2in, locked front, stock limited slip rear on 35's. My 2005 is leaf springs front and rear, so a simple lift. I run 20 PSI with no problems when wheeling.

I'm contemplating 37's on 20" rims, and adding a Detroit to the rear. I have on board air, are the beadlocks necessary, In your opinion? Of course this is no rock crawler but I use it hard when I get to where I'm going.

Interested in your opinions

I have little experience with these rims on my personal truck. BUT, The vehicles I drive for work through some very ****ty terrain are outfitted to survive quite a bit of abuse and those vehicles use this exact rim. They are civilian version of military rims. The company makes the rims for most military vehicles. Either way, that is why I chose them for my personal vehicle. My truck came stock with 20 inch rims and 34.5 tires. I used to run the stock rims with 35x12.5x20 mud terrains but I popped the bead twice on two different occasions so that is why I chose to go with a smaller rim. The rims are size 17s and the tires are 35x12.5 mud terrain E rated tires. This combo gives me a 9 inch sidewall that I love. I have ran the same rim size and tire size on an older truck in the past and loved how they performed so I highly recommend the combo. I chose to not go with 37s because quite frankly i dont need my tires to be that big and would not want my rim / tire combo to be any heavier. This rim/ tire combo is extremely heavy. I also did not want to loose power or gas mileage performance. My truck has an ICON 4.5 inch lift and my truck is exactly as tall as I want it.
The E rated tires are nice because I still need my truck to tow.

here is a picture of my stock 20 rims with 35 mud tires with stock suspension

Let me know if you need to know anything else

My 2000 250, 7.3 zf6 standard shift, Detroit out back

New here guys, I love going exploring with my truck. Just now started modding this one to be more capable offroad. Right now I'm rockin 305/70/16 tires on 16x10 rims on stock suspension, Got a long ways to go. My to do list as of now is.....arb front locker, 4" lift, 35" km2s and a winch. I just fabbed up that flatbed due to my stock one was rotting out. Still need to fab up a front bumper for my winch. Enjoy. And there's a lot of nice full size trucks on here!

Jay,

How's that Detroit handle on the street? I've been debating whether to make that mod. I've got an Auburn e-locker up front with the stock limited slip in the back. I thought about the ARB for the rear but didn't want single track when running around town in the ran or snow.

Details please :)
Sorry about that, I should have posted more.
Its a 2001 7.3 powerstroke. I have a F350 (you can see the stacks sticking up and the rear end) that is also a diesel (6.0). I am kind of a diesel junkie. In fact I also have a Jeep Liberty diesel but I will be selling it since I got the EX.

If you haven't already, check in here for all upgrade/maintenance info: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum29/

Gasser or Smoker? Looks like a V10 :safari-rig:
Its a diesel. As far as upgrades and maintaining these, I have had my 6.0 powerstroke F350 for 9 years. Had the cab off to do headstuds and EGR delete. I'm pretty handy when it comes to working on these. Not tootin my own horn but I have had grease under my nails semi permanently for a few years.
Oh and thats a real good forum.

Loud and clunky. I don't recomend it in the snow. I would much rather have an open diff in snow. When the thing locks up in a turn on ice or snow my trash pile goes sideways. I am actually thing about going arb front and rear just for that reason alone.

Thanks for the real world experience answer. I've been batting that mod around for a year. I think I'll stick with the stock limited slip. The combination of the front locker and rear LS has gotten me through some surprising stuff.

Any more details on that flat bed? That looks pretty nice...
