Backroad, that sure looks familiar. I just finshed a cummins in mine and am ready to move on to more modds. Nice burb btw. Brian

I know this is old, but it's my first time looking through the thread.

Can I ask a stupid question? Maybe 2?

Ok, Stupid question
#1) What's the love affair with the Cummins?
#2) Why not a DUramax? GM in a GM seems would be an easier swap?
Just curious?

BTW- some fantastic FS rides here and I'm lovin' the Burbs of all gens.

It is definitely an adventure squeezing that thing down the Jeep trails. I can make short work of a lot of stuff that gives the short wheelbase crowd a challenge and then a little TJ will show me up around the next corner. Key word being corner!!!

Love the look of those Power Wagons!
If Chrysler would ever turn the PW into a Blazer style (all enclosed a la the Ramchargers of old), I'd bet with all they have going for them and the looks too, they'd be unstoppable!

I'd hock the kids for one....hell...I'd hock the kids for a burger on some days:coffeedrink:

My thoughts...

#1. Drive one and you will figure it out REAL quick. One of the nicest ways
to make power out there...

#2. Duramax is a computer controlled engine. 12 valve Cummins is a one
wire engine and waaaaaay easier to swap in. The Duramax is also an
ISUZU engine...

I realizer they make a boat load of power easily. Just wondere why, other than power mods, everyone was so gaga over them? :)

I can see where they might be easier to swap into another vehicle without all the computer crap to deal with, but with factory harnesses available and companies like Painless, and such, are they still such a problem to swap into a GM?
They are found (regardless of the manufacturer) in GM models
Thanks.

Simplicity, reliability, and parts availability....

The 6bta was used in everything from generators, to agriculture, before it was ever put in a truck.... Been around a long time. You can go to any Cummins, or John Deere in the middle of no-where, and get parts if needed. Let alone Dodge.... Even some parts available at marinas...

Its super simple. Only needs one wire. Heck, only wires on mine, are the sensors(coolant, oil psi, etc), and the alternator. My kill/run is done by cable.

The torque is perfect. Its a powerhouse. Mine avgs 19mpg w/ 35s, and about 17 towing a 30ft boat.

The d-max makes good power but it takes a lot to get it swapped into a rig. Its not just the engine computer you have to worry about, it also talks to all the other modules on the truck, instrument cluster, HVAC, etc. The d-max is also a bear to work on compared to a cummins, very labor intensive. The aftermarket also supports more cummins swaps which makes it a little easier to do. It is a lot cheaper to do a cummins swap than a d-max.
