One downside of tape on vent visor, for cigarette smoking drivers, is that the driver must remember to roll down the window pass the visor, before flicking the butt out the window.

Either that, or they could put the butts in the ash tray instead of littering.

Yeah how dare 'THEY' put tape on vent visors on the not cool list.

Since the elimination of vent or fly crank out windows back in 1968, tape on vent visor are necessary for smokers on rainy days, to vent the smoke out side. God only knows how many Passengers lives have been saved from the horrors of second hand smoke, in cars/trucks that have tape on vent visors.

Dagnabit it's shame that today's Plug and Play Punks, will never know the joy of smoking while driving a truck with crank out vent/fly windows.

ok, for the record, I DO NOT SMOKE, ok, and i hate smokers, a major turn off, and cant stand seeing butts all over the ground, i was sitting on a bench at school one day and was disgusted by the amount of butts surrounding me

when i think of vent visors i dont even relate them with smokers, like mentioned i like them for the rain, and oh yeah, my '96 F150 has triangle windows and they are the greatest invention EVER! in the summer they blow air right to your feet, and with shorts on, its better then a/c, assuming they were gotten rid of because they are "ugly" accrording to todays standards

With all the additives they put in tailor made smokes, I don't know why everyone doesn't roll. And they are biodegradable, no filter. And $20 dollars a month vs. $140. Cracks me up when they tax smokes, tax away. Buy bulk tobacco and roll it, no taxes.

According to one of my uncles, who was a respected car salesman (I know, an oxymoron lol) for 30 some years starting in the early 60's, a large part of the reason was to encourage people to buy the A/C option.
That, and aerodynamics. I suppose there was some cost savings as well.

You know, stress from the anti-smoking histrionic can be detrimental to ones health.

Don't worry too much about cig butts as litter, they are biodegradable, as is everything eventually.. It's just a matter of time.

Consider this; today's junk is tomorrow's treasure. Ever find a nice old can or jar in the back country? I have... I bring them home and and display them.
So when in the 'bush' ..."pay it forward" leave a few of those plastic water bottles and aluminums can laying around, for future generations to find and treasure.

Another item I like to collect is old spark plugs... A few back we did an illegal dirt bike trip in the 'banned' riding area of the Mojave Desert, with an Old-timer desert racer as our guide. It was great listening to his stories of the by-gone days of desert racing and characters that participated in them.
As is my practice of leaving 'treasures' for the future, when a spark plug fouled on my two-smoke, I'd pitch it into the desert. A very nice young rider, noticed me doing it and ran after the plug to retrieve it. He assumed I was littering, in turn, I kindly explain my reason... We both learned a valuable lesson of the importance of effective generational communications.

Yeah, from a few months to 15 years.

Also not a good idea to smoke filtered cigarettes if you're a vegetarian (or Jewish or Muslim) since some contain pigs blood.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread. :)

Them vent windows are awesome as described, until you drive through a swarm of wasps that get sucked in through the open window and directed right at your shorts. Nothing like having a half a dozen dying wasps making a last meal out of your nads.

Hey Scott. I hope you'll be popping back on the Portal here soon, I've got a dilemma and need some advice. After reading your thread here I immediately ran out to my Jeep and ripped out the CB. I than made a bracket and installed a brazier over the passenger's seat. Then I got some good coals out of the wood stove and an old army blanket out of storage and gave those smoke signals a go. Practice makes perfect and all that. Should I have used a native American trade blanket instead? Should I have soaked the blanket first? Have you done any articles on overland fire suppression systems?

The reason I ask is that that old army blanket caught fire and with the panicky flogging of it trying to put it out my Jeep caught fire. It's burning pretty good right now and any advice in a very timely manner would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You know, I probably should have pulled the Jeep out of the garage before coming in to post this....

OMG, I'm pissin' my pants! This is funny.
Ok, back to reading the rest of the thread.

:sombrero:I wouldn't be caught dead in a 14 car pile up w/ one of those stuck to my receiver............stupidest thing I have ever seen on an off road vehicle!
O my god are those trans gender or what?:sombrero:LOL I'm sorry but my receiver is for 'ball' hitches!

I tried to get all offended at this :sombrero:, but really prior to this trip I was in %100 agreement with you.

My buddy bought it ($45) on a whim as we headed out of town. In the end it turned out to be the handiest thing on the rig. 5 days and several hundred miles off pavement without a single issue. I was blown away, as I figured it would get torn off the first day.

That said, I never did go buy one for myself.

Now what were you saying.. something about 14 rear ends in your ball hitch??? Confused. :wings:

All in good fun, now we can get back on topic.

Like smoking cigarettes is ever a good idea?

Quitting was the best thing I ever did.

Although I do get a bit cranky from time to time now.
