I drive a JK, so I don't necessarily agree with the part about not modifying the engine. Anything that can be done to produce a few more ponies from the little mini-van engine is a plus as far as I'm concerned. I plan to put in a supercharger someday!
Yeah engine mods kind of fall into two categories;
I drive a 75 LC, Toyota came a long way in respect to ignition in the next few years. HEI ignition is a logical upgrade to my truck.

Adding nitrous would be a bad mod.

And Scott, regarding the anti-CB thing, I'm totally with you, but it's sorta like wishing against stop lights. Nobody likes them, but you need them in groups of people. Perhaps if said not to ONLY have CB for onboard comms.

I understand. It is my little list - no one actually has to agree with me :snorkel:

Exhaust Stack's on a pickup. There, I said it.

Dear lord thank you for that. I cannot stand those. Only once did I see a rig where they looked good.

I'm gonna get in trouble.....

2-bumper mounted spare tire/cooler/gascan swing outs

Ok....I am going to go hide now.....

No need to hide, but I am curious to hear more. Obviously loading a ton of weight on the rear bumper is not the greatest idea, but if kept to a spare and a fuel can (two at most) is it really that big an issue? Also for those of us not running pickups the only other options are in the cab or up on the roof.

What am I missing? Is it just the gratuitous "look at me" factor of the gadget bumper?:Wow1::elkgrin:

Great list! My truck is bone stock and as much as I drool over some of the modified rigs on here I just can't bring myself to start modiflying it, right now it does everything I need it to.

In my rockcrawling days, we had a set between our group, if you broke, your truck had to wear the Nutz (they were blue)until the next guy broke.

That's awesome. :victory:

The CB thing... provided the CB is setup right. They work. Period.

Around here, having a HAM radio and not a CB will be a great way to be able to talk to some dude sitting at home 50 miles away that can't help you.

Whenever I'm out with other people, it's a mix of CB, and FRS for the newbies. Both work.

Matt,

I don't like the added weight behind the rear axle, especially on short wheelbase vehicles. The spare tire is usually fairly far from the back of the jeep, more so with fuel cans mounted. A swing out rear bumper is generally about 100lbs, spare tire is 50-100lbs, fuel cans are about 50lbs each. That stuff adds up WAY fast. All the weight is also behind the rear axle, so it not only adds weight to the rear axle, it also takes weight OFF the front axle in leverage. This really starts to mess with vehicle dynamics on a SWB while trying to climb things.

Again, just my own opinion.....

The Pontiac Aztec has 4wd, traction control, mud and snow tires and agressive outdoor styling. They work and have actually proven quite economical.

Something to think about :sombrero:

Edit: My reply is meant to be humorous, Paladin actually has a valid point. I am certainly not suggesting you think about buying an Aztec. The CB is the wrong method of communication no matter how it is sliced, but the unfortunate reality is that many people use it. They use CBs for the same reason that people use HiLift jacks and KC lights :D
