Look what my dog found

I took my dog for a walk in a construction site and let him off the leash to chase all the jack rabbits. On this evening he found something different. I've never seen an owl this small.
It looked cozy down in that pipe it was about 3 feet deep and only 6 inches wide! As you can see he has plenty of room.
I wish I would have put something next to it for scale to really show how small he was.

Did you try to help it at least? It won't be able to get loft to fly out of the pipe......

It was gone the next day, I think it was so small it had enough room to get out. Damn, now I feel bad about it!

looks like a juvi burrowing owl, they only get about 12" big at their largest so they are definitely on the small side of things as far as owls go.

I say burrowing owl as well ... Here in CA there are some man made PVC "burrows" put in the ground on purpose just for those owl's
