LP/NG generators

I'm thinking of converting my EU2000 to run on LP or NG. Does anyone here have experience with a setup like this? The obvious advantage is the storage of these fuels is much easier than gasoline.

Another advantage, is that the carb doesn't get gummed up if it sits for a while without running.

Another, is that fuel flow is adjustable so you can tune it for altitude.

And another - I filled up the propane tank on my camper a couple weeks ago - $1.50/gallon yard price. 5g for $7.50. Even when gas hit $5/gallon, the highest propane price I paid at the local propane yard was $2.21/gallon.

Not one of the inverter gen conversions, no.

I had a Class A Winnebago a long time ago that had an Onan generator that ran off the propane tank (it had a 40 gallon propane tank and the truck engine could run from either gas or propane). Not once did that generator ever fail to start, and it was an easy screw turn on the regulator to adjust fuel flow for altitude.

I have been considering the Yamaha EF3000iSEB with propane conversion for some time though. I like that the wiring harness is pre-wired for a remote start unit.

I see from your link, that the conversion you are looking at is not Honda approved. I seem to recall that the conversions from U.S. Carburetion don't void the Yamaha warranty, but I don't think they have them for the Honda inverter gens. Voiding the warranty would be an issue I'd be concerned about unless the warranty on your gen has already expired.


Another advantage I forgot to mention earlier, is that the propane conversion lets you easily run from a 5g or 10g tank, so you don't need to do the Honda external tank trick to get extended run time.

I added a tri-fuel kit to my generator. It is a bigger 4000w generator that I use for emergency power at home. The kit was fairly simple to install for someone with some "handyman" in his or her blood. Not perfect bolt on it required some imagination to get a good solid mount.
I am not disappointed. It starts and runs great. Keep in mind that propane does not provide the energy of gasoline and usually requires 1/3 more fuel for the same output. IIRC, my kit cost was just under $300 from US Carburetion Inc. ( uscarb.com )
I chose this company from the Youtube installs I viewed, their responsiveness to email, and the fact that there was no modification to the stock equipment needed. That means it is easily reversible.
Mine has been on about a year now. I do think I will add one to my 1850w generator eventually.
