Lucky 8’s Project P38

Very impressive stuff.
The protections look great! But already knowing than shipping to Argentina from any other part of the world is going to be too expensive we are designing and making a few sets of our own.
That snorkel is looking good, hope it's on sale soon!
I saw the ATB video first and thought, oh well, that is not so good. And then I came and read your post, and now knowing that the truck was on RWD and no TC! That thing not being a locker is doing a great job.
You are getting close to your goals now. There is not much left to do on that truck, and that is sad, I would have liked this thread to go on forever.

Making things by yourself is always the best way to go , if you have the resources. After all , it's not rocket science.

Can do attitudes are great. I live by this.

By the same token I know lots and lots of people with millions of never-ending projects. Or, worse, stuff that looks like it was made in a digestive system.
Sometimes buying is better. Not to mention economies of scale....

Mini Project Update : Flash back

There was only 125 Rhino edition P38s made for the US market in 2000 and then a final batch of 150 for 2002. Needless to say these are rare trucks.

So whats the point of this history lesson ?

Against all odds we had another Rhino edition P38 show up at Lucky8's front door. This poor animal was in desperate need of some BECM work. Once it had a clean bill of health we took the little guy out for some pictures with it's big brother. Enjoy

This truck really makes me proud, it can be so elegant and also son agressive. Still proud to remain between both worlds dough.

Great pictures!!

Heare are some bits of the protections we are putting together down south in Argentina.
They are all stainless steal 3mm.

I know the rear diff guard looks strange, but that is what we came up with! Will see if it works.

We also made some steering/radiator guard.
Ill post some more pictures when we bolt all of the bits on. We havent had time yet.

Would you say the lack of a locking transfer case is noticeable offroad?

Yes it is. The Borg Box is nice in concept but when pushed off road if is not close to the capabilities of the Lt230. If you look back in the blog we took apart the Borg box and welded it up to lock it. We left the front Viscous nose cone in place to see what will happen and that is most likely the broken piece in this puzzle. We are still looking for an economical way to lock the Borg box.

Yes!

The best ones are from Ashcroft and http://british4x4centre.com/ Has them for a Smoking good deal.

What are you talking about ? The question was about a transfer-case. I assume your talking about the Ashcroft Air locker.

And why would you have a site that sells Ashcroft

Yes, I just noticed it myself. He was talking about the transfercase. Well there isn't anything reliable out there as far as lockable Transfercase is concerned.
And by having more traction at the wheels , the transfercase in the way it is currently , is totally sufficient.
Why I sent people to Josh? Because he has the Ashcroft parts faster available than anyone else.

FWIW, I ordered a set of Ashcroft heavy duty rear axles for my DII from Lucky 8 late in the afternoon a couple of weeks ago and they arrived less than 48 hours later, no special shipping. Can't beat that!

Yes, you can. How much did you pay for them?

Do you realize you are posting on lucky8's thread , and sending people elsewhere??!! How about a little courtesy?! Go post somewhere else if that's what you want to do. Start your own thread?
