Mac Users: Open Office 3.0 Beta

Built in Mac OS X support! No more using X11 :bike_rider:

I've downloaded it an so far it's pretty sweet. Still hoping for a Visio viewer in a future release.

You have to use the following link to download OpenOffice.org 3.0 for Mac in order to choose the version for your processor. The previous link apparently only points to the link for Intel users. If you have a PPC Mac use this link:

Note my other reply. If you have a PPC Mac use the other link. Some reviews online say that there is no PPC version but there is. I just tried it out. What there is not is a Universal binary for both Intel & PPC.

My MacBook is an Intel, my G5 is the last PPC machine they made. I get to download both. 165mb...this will take a while.

Did you see the date on this thread? I was wondering what the big deal was, as I never had to use X11 for Open Office (though Gimp still has to work through it).

OpenOffice is effectively deprecated. The "new hawtness" is Libre Office. I still prefer Microsoft Office on the Mac but Libre seems much nicer and faster compared to OpenOffice. NeoOfice seemed to get just plain stupid with the last few patch updates and Libre has basically passed it at this point.

lol - very old thread. I've since moved over to MS Office for Mac - was able to get a full version through work for a total of $15. The dark side was cheap...

Dark side or not, MS makes some great office productivity tools - even for the Mac!
