Michaels's Discovery

it doesn't matter how "big" the object is, the distance between the pieces being welded is still more or less the same. basically this far, since i ground the sides at an angle "___".

i agree. the disco looked retarded before the cut. it'll look even better once finished. i'm gonna make a few more of these here and there, along with more sliders.

I meant like this big of a project. Not trying to be a jerk lol. Seriously, it looks great. I like it a lot. It has that greg davis look.

haha. yeah. well i built sliders, so a bumper isn't too bad. both are about the same difficulty. it'll be way easier once i build my jigs!

the GD was my main inspiration. i think of it as a cross to RTE/GD. i was going to do round corners, but changed my mind last minute. although i feel this will look different enough to not be called a "copy," which is the last thing i would want to do.

i'm making more in may if you want one. :coffeedrink:

It looks almost identical to a gen 1 GD rear bumper. Like this one on Greg Hren's DII.

I've wondered who made that bumper for years! Thanks for clearing that up! Michael, the bumper looks amazing! I don't know if I'll be able to do both in may, since I'd like to do front bumper first. That aside, it seriously looks great bud! Good job,

Peter

never seen that before. it's got enough crap bolted to it. also a little messy...

I wasn't suggesting you copied it. Even if you did, Greg doesn't make them like this anymore so I can't see how it would be a big deal.

I always liked the quarter panel protection of the original design. As you said, very RTEish. I like what you've done with your bumper, integrating the best of both.

agh gotcha.that was exactly the point, to blend the best of both.

Hey Mike my rig is a bit messy what are you trying to say! HaHa
No seriously....

Mike, Like the bumper man... great welds.
you should cut the exhaust resinator off and get the exhaust out from under that steel bumper. Before you crush it man.
We end up doing the same thing on the 80 series L.C. alot.
They have the same "CAN" at the end of the exhaust under the bumper.

But looks like the rig is coming along. great work Mike.
Peter you still need to stop by the shop, we can help you out with the steel stuff when you get the time.
Although I leave for AZ next Tues. They will still help you out.

haha thanks daniel! i am actually going to cut the resonator off and weld in a straight pipe to dump right behind the bumper. the whole reason i painted it black was to hide it for time being. haha

i'm sorry our TN trip fell through, but i wasn't ready for the possible breakage. i've got some extra money stashed away for "repairs" now, so bring it on!

hope you do well in AZ fighting those fires. look me and peter up when you came back to visit/live again. we'd love to go out on some more rides with ya!

Heck yes! It would have to be after finals though. I got laid off earlier this week so we'll have to see about the sliders. I have the money right now, but just barely if you know what i mean! We'll be in touch about it. Again, it looks great!
