Essentially it’s just a trickle charge while driving

Yes that is true but that is not sufficient to charge a depleted battery. Having a depleted battery, by camping for a couple of days ,and no way to charge it is not really an optimal situation.

How is the 65QT Dual zone fridge working out as a freezer/fridge? From what I read it is more a one zone when set to freeze one side is freezing and the other side is very cold. Or are there separate controls ?

Thanks

That’s about it. We have only used it once or twice as a frig/freezer. It works well if you prefreeze meals like spaghetti, roasts, soups, etc., and use the regular side for everything else. Most of the time we have pulled out the dividers and used it as a giant refrigerator.

For an experiment I am going to try freezing a meal in a ziplock bag that sets inside a rectangular Pyrex bowl. Once the contents are frozen I can leave the glass container at home. Less stuff to transport and much easier cleanup. The frozen bags may even stack more compactly.

you wire it into the redarc already? super simple.
Not yet, I thought about wiring up the way I think it should be... I’ve got a 50/50 chance of getting it right and if it’s wrong I just have to reverse the connections. But, since I have some time before we are taking the trailer out again, I sent an email to Overland Solar to verify the wiring of the solar panel. As I understand it, not all companies wire panels the same way. But yes, it looks real simple to connect it to the redarc. It looks like you have a ground lug right below the redarc too.

I wire up the input with the correct polarity. I then use a gender bender if the panels cables are reversed.

It would be nice to see a video of a walk through on one of these trailers, just to see all the features, nooks and crannies , etc... Also, with one in action would be nice as well lol
I'm In Akron, Ohio area if you want to see one in person. And will be exploring WV this summer plenty.

Hey Doug, how about some pics?

Not working much on the trailer until the weather warms up and dries out so I can spend time outside. Anxious to get camping and playing with the trailer to fix a few things.

BTW I believe we will have three on the East Coast by summer time. Any others please chime in.
1) Me in Ohio
2) Fla
3) PA on order

That has been my experience, as I mentioned further up. So I now have 200W of permanent solar panels on the roof, plus another 200W of deployable panels in case I need them. If that fails, I will be bulk charging via booster cables from my vehicle to the battery bank directly.

The trickle from the tow vehicle is sufficient to run the fridge without depleting the battery bank, though.

I'd rather have a proper charging system so I'll just wire one up when I get the trailer. I will also add a couple of panels on the roof for when sitting.

Could I get the measurements of the top of the box the fridge slides into?

The trailer I'm getting does not have a rack and I'm scheming as to what I'm going to do with that space.

Thanks

I don’t have a rack either. Because of the potential long distances between gas pumps on my planned Heart of the West trip in September, I’ve talked with Mark about installing a dual Jerry can holder on the driver’s side and possibly a tie down system on the passenger side. I’d mount my propane fire ring and possibly a second propane tank there. This would also get me setup for trips to Baja and Canada/Alaska.

Nanc and I both see the T4R and Beastie combo, now that we are retired, as the tool for slowing down and spending more time at each campsite. This is in contrast to the past perception of constantly racing around. It is also the perfect replacement for the cabin on the lake lifestyle. We can now visit as many lakes as we want, spend as much time as we want at each, then move on. One month on the ocean, the next in the mountains. Every time I’ve pencilled it out it always is less expensive too.

im getting awfully windy here. Sitting around the house while my knee heals is driving me nuts! Sorry. ?
