I don’t have a rack either. Because of the potential long distances between gas pumps on my planned Heart of the West trip in September, I’ve talked with Mark about installing a dual Jerry can holder on the driver’s side and possibly a tie down system on the passenger side. I’d mount my propane fire ring and possibly a second propane tank there. This would also get me setup for trips to Baja and Canada/Alaska.

Nanc and I both see the T4R and Beastie combo, now that we are retired, as the tool for slowing down and spending more time at each campsite. This is in contrast to the past perception of constantly racing around. It is also the perfect replacement for the cabin on the lake lifestyle. We can now visit as many lakes as we want, spend as much time as we want at each, then move on. One month on the ocean, the next in the mountains. Every time I’ve pencilled it out it always is less expensive too.

im getting awfully windy here. Sitting around the house while my knee heals is driving me nuts! Sorry. ?

Rather than carrying gas in cans why not get a long range tank for the Forerunner? A lot less hassle than dealing cans. I carry 64 gallons of on board gas in my Land Cruiser.

I will carry an extra 10 gallons in cans for the Alaska trip just in case or to help someone in need.

if I had a LC instead of my T4R I’d do just that. And believe me I’ve thought a lot about this.

The big differential for me is cost. I’m retired and can’t really justify spending a lot more money in this. At 71+ y.o., how much time can I really expect to be doing this Into the future? Besides the cost of the fuel tank, there additional suspension modifications, moving the spare tire to a new rear bumper mount, ect. so I’ve decided to go with a simpler, just as effective, and easier solution.

BTW, I just finished reading Dan Grec’s “The Road Chose Me” vol.1. Excellent book. Know what modifications he did to his two door Jeep in preparation for that 40,000+ mile trip from the Arctic Ocean to Ushuaia? He added all terrain tires. That’s it. He used his old backpacking and mountaineering camping gear. at this point in the game Nanc and I require a bit more comfort than that. But the basic premise for use is to keep it as simple as possible.

Not working much on the trailer until the weather warms up and dries out so I can spend time outside. Anxious to get camping and playing with the trailer to fix a few things.

BTW I believe we will have three on the East Coast by summer time. Any others please chime in.
1) Me in Ohio
2) Fla
3) PA on order
Hi, I think I am the one in PA! Can't wait to get my trailer!!

At 71+ you might not want to deal with lifting and holding 35 pound cans. You can put the cans on the roof of the truck. You can stand on the tailgate to fill them up and then use a super siphon to fill the truck. The cans would sit on their backs . That is how I had my spare gas on my FJ-60. Just fill with about 4.5 gallons , only refuel in the cool mornings and you will never spill a drop of gas and never have to lift a can.

Great idea. I do have a super siphon too. But...I hate putting that kinda weight up on my roof. What kind of jerry can holders are u using in this pic anyway. They look very robust.

I priced a long range tank for my Nissan Frontier, which would be brought in from Australia, $1695 plus $350 shipping. I think I will find another solution and jerry cans for now.

Check with Cruiser Brothers maybe they can get you a tank in one of their shipments.

You would just need to make an extension for the hose. I forgot what can carriers I had. I got them over 15 years ago. Frontrunner, Rhino Rack and ARB makes them.

Your roof is just fine with that little bit of weight. You might need a small platform rack to attach to the factory cross bars to hold the cans. I like Rhino Rack

Hey guys been asked by the site to step back from the tread, other manufactures didn’t like the fact I was chiming in on the thread, I will set up an advertising account shortly, if you need to get a hold of me.. you know where to find me.

Wow, Mike! Six Jerry cans!

I was also thinking that I’ll have to extend my super siphon hose no matter where the Jerry cans end up. IF the mount is located at the front of the trailer on the black box the issue there will be the difference between the top of the box and the fuel cover height on the left side of the T4R. I’ll be looking at some pics to eyeball it as Beastie is in LaCombe and I’m recuperating from surgery. But by the looks of it, I won’t have a problem on level ground.09045A2E-0750-44F3-BC39-AAB823D44C0F.jpeg

If you're every passing though Morgantown let me know! Where abouts in WV are you planning on exploring?
where ever and whatever we can. More down by Greenbrier and New River Gorge. But need to find quiet spots to escape too. I don't recall all the locations I did map recon for but some closer to home so we can hit the locations easy on a Friday night. Following the river and railroad tracks from the north end of the park closes to Ohio. definitely will hit you up before we make plans.

I'm am not a fan of weight like fuel on a roof rack. I did some calcs for my Expo presentation (need to find and can quote) but at 60+lbs for 10gals, that's about the same as a 1-2 inch lift or bigger tires. And the windage. If you can mount on the fridge box, much better. or off the tailgate with a new bumper. I sure wish we had a little more length on the tongue, maybe when I fix the hitch I can resolve that too.
