Saw one of these yesterday in Arlington, OR. Was tired, worn out and busy corraling kids as we were on our way home from camping, so didn't try and wave the guy over. Very cool looking rigs.

Since owning my first JDM back in 05, I was always attracted by the Delica's.

In the past 4 years I've been trying to source a camperized Delica with a Reimo pop top.

Apparently there's only 500 made on this planet and a few of them are in Canada.

Finally I've found one and I should be able to pick it up from the boat yard next week.

Will receive the works. WVO tank, lockers, hubs, big brakes, rack, westy interior.

Will be sad to part with the original one we have but hey.. a pop top !

Next to impossible I would imagine.

Canada is 15 year import rule while US is 25 years.

Go figure

Sucks..

When i saw that your trip would start in Vancouver, I thought Washington.. not Canada :(

I had hope for a minute there..

With your 15 year import laws in Canada I thought I'd post some pics of what is for sale here so you can get a idea of the 2 next generations of Delica are like. Maybe give you an idea of what's in store. Obviously the engine is in now in front instead of being under your seat and most have swivelling front seats although that isn't really legal in Oz so we have to lock the mechanism up. The biggest plus is of course the bigger 2.8 turbo diesel which is the same as in our Pajero's. (Montero??)

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-car...6&distance=25&Model=DELICA&Region=All Regions

The early L300 4x4 vans from the mid '80s have always been a good seller here and there were some limited sales of the early '90s Delica coming in as imports but since the introduction of the current Delicas sales have really taken off.

Some of the options are wild. Like full glass roof with electric cieling shutters and even electric curtains. Also I believe they are available in a SWB, LWB and extra long wheelbase. Virtually all of the imports here come with autos and alloys.

They are very good offroad as well although I think they always look a bit narrow and as though they are going to tip over on the first corner. I very nearly imported one a couple of years back but opted for a Hi Roof Pajero which had alot more options than any of the Australian ones ever did. Most of the imports here are very different in minor ways to original Australian models so parts can be a real hassle. Mitsubishi tend to be very similar however so parts were easy. Toyota Australian HiLux Fourunners and Japanese Surfs although they look identical externally are a very different animal underneath.

BTW My Pajero had the 2.5 Cyclone engine in it which might be the same one as in the Canadian Chamonix. I put a 2.5" exhaust and a FG aircleaner on it and had my diesel guy trick up the pump . I was going to fit a bigger intercooler but sold early. Very worthwhile mods. Tons more mid range power.

My .50cents on Bitsamissing imports.

John.

I've driven the L400's.

Not my style. ;)

The L300's are more rugged.

They are based on the 1st Gen Pajero/Montero while the L400's (white one you posted) are based on the 2nd Gen Pajero/Montero.

They are more like a Mazda MPV minivan.

The pop top on the Delica we have is a god send. I have yet to see one on an L400 that can fit two adults up top. :coffeedrink:
