Day 3
We camped on a spit of sand right next to the Green River. For being in the middle of the desert there was quite a bit of wildlife. In the morning we could see all of the little tracks in the sand crisscrossing our campsite.

A view of the river from our site
After breakfast we took the canoe out on the river. Our plan was to paddle up stream until we were tired and then float back to camp.

Private island
The wind started gusting on our return trip to the point where it was actually blowing us back upstream. We ended paddling in both directions instead of enjoying a leisurely float back to camp. The stormy weather continued for the majority of the afternoon as the cold air mass moved in. When we got back to camp we found everything covered in a nice layer of sand. By the end of the day the constant barrage of sand was starting to get to us and we decided it was time to head into town.
Sections of Hey Joe Trail
Spring Canyon was a very dramatic drive. In some sections the road is right on the edge of a sheer cliff.
After a long day of blowing sand, a hot shower and a cold beer were amazing!
Day 4
We decided to run Dome Plateau on our way out of Moab and I'm glad we did. It was one of my favorite trails. It had a variety of terrain and plenty of sights to see.
The drive back was pretty uneventful. Of course we had to make a pit stop in Palisade for a little vino
I pulled over for a quick picture on Vail Pass to add a little contrast to our trip.
I couldn't be happier with the 4runner. It was reliable, comfortable, great on the trail, and averaged about 21 mpg. My build is definitely not complete. Taking the truck on an extended trip gave me a better idea of exactly what I want. As soon as summer break begins I'll start the next stage of the build.
