This is what I found on single wheel conversions, which is what I believe Stockton Tire told my friend about safety of the conversion.

Darrin doesn't have any choice. He does business in the U.S.A. He is limited by the liability / tort system that controls his marketplace.

IMO, it is irresponsible and unfair to criticize or compare what Darrin and other builders can sell in the U.S.A. market to what other competent, capable and experienced builders can sell in other markets. Those competent, capable and experienced builders have the freedom to innovate, test, certify and sell safe and reliable products that buyers will never see in the U.S.A.

By the same token, it is shameful that anyone, manufacturer or builder, is forced by career and legal bounds to make proclamations about "sound engineering practices" when their actions, as their statements make clear, are solely due to "the degree of liability" inherent in a marketplace that is shaped, not by innovation, performance or merit, but by liability, and the prospect thereof.

Consumers in other markets enjoy many innovative products, including well engineered SRW conversions that have been tested and proven in conditions that have more than proven their validity, safety and level of engineering. I submit the SRW Fuso expedition across Siberia as one of many possible examples.

It's hard to appreciate how much you miss out on in the way of product alternatives and innovation until you get outside the boundaries of the U.S.A. and experience other societies. It's the same basic scenario as a frog placed in a pot of water that is slowly brought to a boil. The process is so slow, the frog never realizes what is going on until it's too late. The people of the U.S.A. never realized what was going on until it was too late.

If you were to fit singles to a canter in the US who would really know! do you have annual checks or inspections?
There are thousands of illegal vehicles getting around OZ and the authorities would'nt have a clue!

Hi Alan, How ya goin?

Alan, the authorities will look a lot harder at you in your Canter than in a car. They tend to stand out like a sore thumb. (Tough on them here anyway).

It's a lot easier here in Victoria, Vic roads would'nt have a clue what they were looking at, I took a 1944 Chev blitz to get registered and they thought it was a new Unimog.

They like picking on tyres up here. We are only allowed 15mm increase in tyre diameter so a 33" is illegal on any conventional 4wd. You still see a lot of 33"s and 35"s up here but they get hassled a lot. I run 285/75R16's on my 80 which are technically illegal but they "look" smaller than a 33" and I haven't been hassled but mates I have been traveling with at the same time with 33"s have.

I would be wary of DP chips, all you are doing is increasing fuel pressure, not really the correct method for more power, the better chips control the timing duration and monitor engine/exhaust temps etc.

Fair call Alan im no expert i looked at the steinbaur chip but decided a local aussie company if anything went wrong is easier to deal with and with all the warrenty that go,s with the dp chip i went with them. Its been on for 12000 ks no prob yet (touchwood) Tony
