Yes gearing wheel base etc is different, and that is why the JEEP is a better off roader than the FJ....thank you for proving my point!

Phil is just feeling left out that there is no love for the land cruisers. So what, there are more parts available for the Jeep because its a more used vehicle. again, sales tell a story buddy. My jeep has a leveling kit, and upgraded tires. that's it. I will go ANYWHERE your beloved land cruiser will go.

Pretty bold statement when you dont even know me or my vehicle. I will say though if I you have is a stock jeep, leveling kit, and upgraded tires I have you beat in the overland travel department even by the jeep owners:wings:

It a jeep thread I expected no love.

Is it because there are a more used vehicle or are the upgrades/parts needed? Check out the mods on the World Record holders vehicle.

Dont get me wrong I really like the XJ platform (track, wheelbase, approach and deproach angle) and I see jeep making improvement ever year. Someday I hope to see a fair comparison.

well considering your name is LANDCRUISER phil.....And your bitching about all the add ons available for wranglers...Im guessing your driving a stock old model cruiser. please humor us with what your rig is.

thanks, and how so? You are stating that all these add ons are not for overland travel. so again, please humor me on how I would not follow your rig, considering you are complaining about the mods available. If you vehicle is modded, PLEASE BY ALL MEANS ********!

You must of missed SEMA this year
Sadly I did. Its not open to the general pubic and a terrible representation of what owners do to their 4x4s. Better option would be jeep beach or easter jeep safari. Every band has those people who over do it. Bottom line is that we can spend all day measuring d***s and debating the function. In the end it doesn't do us any good. I'm glad you like your cruiser. I like my jeep.

If You only afford one vehicle that does it al at "lower price"

If You want a modern and proper 4x4 with high groundclearance that is safe with airbags + esp etc that You can use as dayly driver, camping, smaller "overlanding trips" and sleep in it. You have some choices. I outruled Defender and Landcruiser 70 series because they are considered not to be safe and are little bit big and clumpsy in town and as a dayly driver. I dont include pickups, to large and You might not be abile to sleep in it. It has to look cool.
What do we have

Jeep Wrangler unlimited, payload 550kg
Toyota landcruiser 150 (prado?), payload 570kg
Landrover Discovery LR4, payload 650kg?
Mitsubishi Pajero, Payload 655kg

There are a difference in payload but not hugh compared to Defender and 70 series

I think that Wrangler looks the best, the old school and looks rough and has the lowest price and probably the most accesories. My second would be the LR4, looks little bit tame without a rear spare wheel and costs about 2-3 times as much as a Rubicon.

So for me I made the right choice with the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and I am very happy with it. I do like the extra safety with true lockers that Rubicon have.

Sorry if you are upset...Im not bitching Im making points. No need to get personal its a discussion.

I never said anything about anyone following anyone. Please stay on task it about overlanding.

I have no problem posting pictures my Land CruiserS as you can guess Im very proud of them. But its not about who I am or what I drive its about the brand and overlanding.

Jump in your jeep and take a trip down to Cabo and count the Toyota and the jeeps you see (on a trailer does not count) I have and you dont want to know the results.

I will admit I have drove a jeep in the Baja 2000. To be perfectly honest the only parts that were real jeep parts were the head light, tail lights, and part of the frame and it was designed by Mopar/jeep engineers.

The eswaybar and 4/1

The Eswaybar and 4/1 xfer case is a godsend-(when needed) and with careful mods you can have the lockers wired/switched so they are available ANYTIME--even 2wd (rear)-

Hi

The Wrangler unlimited 4 doors came out year 2007 so it is relativly new so I think it will take some time for it to spread and be more popular outside US. And if Jeep dont destroy the new Wrangler that comes out 2017? some thing I think it will increase in Africa and Australia. The Jeep will spread like locusts :Wow1:

I mention this before at South Africas largerst 4x4 forum Jeep came at second place if You count posts and threads. Landrover is first and on third place is Toyota. In some Years Jeep will totally dominate:victory: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=134

Probably soon Defender and Land cruiser 70 series will disapear
