You guys realize that adding 100whp to an EcoBoost is extremely easy and becoming more and more common. The only down side is you have to run premium fuel.

They have daily driver 500WHP 2.7's roaming the streets these days, on pump gas, with no problems.

Watch your AFR's and EGT's when towing with that tune. That's half way to the power output per liter, of an F1 car without half the Rpm to cool pistons.

F1=362hp/l @15 000 rpm.
Ducati 1199 Superquadro= 208/l @ 10 500 rpm

You're claiming 185hp/l @ 5000?

Generally speaking, 50hp/l is a decent target for pure reliability (a wheezy gm 8.1). A semi truck is only 38. A tuned up maritime version of the same semi engine is only 50. Anything more than 100, is compromised towards performance, not reliability. Generally, with today's normal metallurgy.

Lol @ 5,000 rpm. It's pretty rare that my motor has to wrap up that high. Have you ever considered that Ford overbuilt them and then drastically detuned them?

IIRC the 2019 2.7 hits its peak TQ well under 3,000 RPMs.

I have nothing against either of those engines but.. what does that even mean? Like I'd bet my willy more Samurais have conquered Dusy-Ershim than Raptors have.. I know the first five years of my adult life I traveled half the US on and off road behind a carbureted engine that makes 92 horsepower at sea level. Are you talking about desert racing or something?


No, I am talking about power delivery. The 5.0 has to spin more RPM's to make more power. Off idle it's a slug. The EcoBoost simply makes more boost with out increasing the RPM's. It effortlessly chugs it's way through things, rather than having to hit WOT.

I know inflation is a thing but I bought a 2015 Ram 1500 brand new for just under $25k - sticker was like $31700 I think, or close to that. V8, 4x4, tow and limited slip rear diff. It's the base model otherwise but consider the difference in price between the ~$32k sticker an the $72k sticker on that Ford. I have a professional career and an income I'm not ashamed of - and still couldn't justify a truck in that price range.

For that price and want to go fast, buy a Vette or Porsche Cayman and still have some change in yer pocket...might even get you laid by a woman that still has all her teeth. $72K might buy you the nicest F150 out there, but it is still an F150. Seventy two fricken thowwwwwsand dollars.... for a 1/2 ton pickup truck. Laughable.

5.1 seconds 0-60 for the 3.5HO in the super crew Limited. Second fastest truck 0-60 ever built. Only the Dodge SRT 10 could beat it, and that was a regular cab that could not tow or haul. The Limited not only hauls posterior, but does so while maintaining its payload and tow ratings. Its comfortable and quite. The seats are awesome and it has one hell of a frame under it.

Did you ever consider that some people like luxury vehicles, fast vehicles, and owning a truck. The limited let's them have all three in one vehicle. Some people don't like driving bottom of the line trucks. The irony is it cost less than a new Land Cruiser... yet not a soul here cosiders the Land Cruiser to be laughable at its price point...nope... this entire website drools over them.

To me it's no more laughable than most of the "expo" trucks on this site that suck gas, can't keep up in a modern interstate,m and look like they drove through a sporting goods store and all the debris stuck.

Have you considered a new Nissan Titan?
They are quite well-built and also affordable too, and comes with a rear locker. There is a diesel option too. May not be very economical but it worth to look into.

off road travel benefits from a stout chassis, quality tires, generous fuel range and absolute reliability.

If anything crazy torque becomes a handicap when you start snapping axles or pushing your chassis too hard because the power makes you get cocky


So a 36 gallon fuel tank, fully boxed frame, and the ability to run all kinds of tires is what you want huh.... funny... the F150 has that.

Also... there are no issues with axles snapping or any other issues. Why do you guys assume that for some reason they are weak trucks? ********... I have friends with over 200k that do full boost launches, in 4 hi, on sticky tires, and not a thing has flinched.
