My Journey

Often when I'm wandering in the sand dunes I'll continue south and reach a large canal which runs parallel to, and is just to the north of the border wall.....

20200123_123653-1600x369.jpg

Signs are posted along the canal saying that the calm, cool and clear waters are dangerous.....I wonder how that could be.....

It seems as though you're constantly watched here.....and I do emphasize "watched" as I always find Border Patrol to be as respectful as can be and they never do anything but watch all day long.....

Overhead are drones, small aircraft, and helicopters.....all day long.....

One day I was at the canal with Yukon and we looked up to see these guys watching us. I took their photograph and at the time I thought coyotes.....

20200123_123114-1600x778.jpg

Now I'm not so sure what they are ? In the middle of the desert, what else could they be.....

20200123_123121-1600x778.jpg

What a fascinating place it is.....

All my run ins with the Border Agents in the desert has been +. Its a tough job, hats off to them.

I grew up farming and ranching, we have a lot of large irrigation canal's here as well. With the dept, and in the surrounding Ag areas, unfortunately every year the irrigation canals take a handful of lives.

They have extremely strong undercurrents, in conjunction with the hidden strainers, ( pipes, and off shoot pumps, siphons with metal grates across them)
and concrete sides make them hard to climb out of, or even get a grip...

Most ours here are 10+ feet deep.

I bet I could start a pool here of money, people would pay, just to see that one pick of you .lol Do I hear 10 dollars? You are pretty much the only reason I log on here anymore.
If you go back and read every single one of his posts, you will catch a glimpse or two!

Those canals look quite devious..... current, objects hidden under water, walves.... Dangerous enviroment.

Border Patrol people have a tough job.

Keep them coming - this could easily be turned into a book !

Greg.....thanks for posting up. Always appreciate your feedback and pleased that you enjoy our writings and photos.....

jadmt.....desert coyotes look no different (to me anyhow) than what we see up north. I thought they could be dogs too but very odd sighting in the desert.....

PNWY.....it's the fairly steep side inclines that seem to be the biggest obstacle / danger.....this place was different.....there was a boat ramp which was an incredible find in the middle of the desert and exactly what Yukon required.....

tgil.....but not standing on one leg with my arms up into the air.....but yea maybe in front of a waterfall.....that I'm not certain of.....

Arjan.....as always love your feedback.....

Ace.....assuming that I move forward with a Defender, it will not affect this blog negatively (if that is what you mean). I've been kicking around different ideas for the past year and I've yet to find my affordable dream cabin so this an alternative that I think I could easily (?) live with. Yukon will leave us soon.....so I'd like to do some humanitarian work with Tanner in the future and travel the backroads of South America.....we shall see. I'll always post here (assuming I'm never banned). I have two sons that have no idea what I do.....I know I've posted this before.....I hope someday they will learn.....

Yukon is really, really struggling with walking these days but beyond that she seems to be a happy dog.....and that sure does complicate things. Now Yukon has two real loves in life.....the first one is eating human food.....oh does she ever love human food ! Her mornings now begin with hard boil eggs and organic toast with butter. Throughout the day.....well, I'd be embarrassed to tell you what else she's been consuming. Her days generally end with a couple of scoops of Breyer's vanilla ice cream. Her second real love is swimming and with the discovery of a boat ramp in the middle of the desert she has been enjoying the cool clear waters of the canal daily.....

We are so blessed to have our old Jeep.....it takes us to the places that I'd prefer not to take the truck & camper.....

Here at the cool waters edge she gets crazy again.....

20200127_092222-778x1600.jpg

I swear her pains and old age wash away with the currents of the canal.....if it could only be forever.....

Goede Avond,

"..move forward with a Defender .."

As a 40 + year owner, driver and sufferer of Land Rovers and proud owner of a Series hybrid, a Ninety and this OneTen I strongly suggest you make more than really sure you want one of these for what you describe..

1580240793467.png

They are totally not like any US vehicle - other than the early Jeeps - and seriously expensive in the US.

Having said that, they are very, very much part of my life.

Take Care.

It brings me joy to know Yukon is getting to swim and enjoy her human food!

Seems like I remember from a post, way back, a lady leaving a note in your chair and referring to you as a tall, handsome stranger?

You really are tall!

Well I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for is true"

I enjoy the Anonymity of the faceless posting. Would not change a thing.

Love the pick of Yukons expectant mug through the well-used throw ring. That's my new pup's favorite pose.
