My Journey

Ace & ITTOG......isn't it interesting the way that nature can affect each one of us differently ? Weather.....one's mood.....many other things.....probably affect that feeling at any particular moment as well. I think that one thing that is universal in all of us is that it's nearly always a positive experience. For me, I'm just overwhelmed. It's why I love sitting on mountaintops, alone, and seeing as far as I can see. The feeling that I get right there at that moment is unmatched.....until I stand on a beach watching the crashing waves coming ashore.....and it goes on and on.....it's the power of Mother Nature.....

AlwaysRoaming.....once again I have to use that saying "even a blind hog finds an acorn occasionally".....thank you. All the glory goes to Mother Nature.....

Chet6.7.....exactly.....

Arjan.....lucky you ! I suspect that the day that I quit will be the day that I can't.....

Ruby Beach would be our next stop as we drove further north along Highway 101.....here the road once again turned inland.....east.....into the rainforest. Since I just wasn't quite ready to leave the Pacific Ocean behind, I decided to stop here too.....really, there never seems to be enough.....

It was early in the morning when we arrived.....maybe around 9 a.m. if I remember correctly.....

20250513_153548_copy_349x747.jpg

Here there was a large paved parking lot with maybe fifty.....give or take.....parking spaces of which the majority were filled.....my first impression / expectations of course were not good.....

But somehow, miraculously, all the people seemed to somehow disappear into the landscape.....

20250513_153951_copy_349x747.jpg

Maybe it was as simple as we walked further than anyone else.....it wasn't them that disappeared.....it was us.....

I guess that really it never mattered.....maybe I was just too obsessed with being alone.....

20250513_155209_copy_349x747.jpg

And then finally.....it was time.....time to go.....time to say goodbye to the Pacific Ocean. I'm not so sure that I was quite ready to head inland at this point.....but we had come.....and we had seen. And it had been just sooooo awesome. Posting here this morning brings back nothing but the fondess of memories of our trip to the ocean.....

Yes it is and one of the reasons it is amazing. When I first read Ace's post I thought about me being at the tree line and not venturing out onto the beach and Ace at the waterline with his dog staring out into the great ocean. It is good that mankind is as diverse as nature.

The pictures in the last two posts are amazing. I have never been on a beach like that. I imagine I would like that a lot more than your standard white sands Beach for swimming.

It is a shame that I do not like sand because my wife loves the beach. We have been to Cancun five or six times. It isn't too bad because it is wrapped with culture, great food, and the pool is right by the beach so I can get the sand off.

You pictured me correctly. Id be at the waters edge absorbing the booms as the surf crashes down. But i grew up around water, hitch in the Navy and a career in water resources. Just about every chance i get I’ll dump my TC into low range and go play in the sand. Sometimes i get stuck too.

ITTOG.....did you guys happen to stay at the Hyatt ? That was our go to place. There's a massive rock about a quarter mile off shore near the hotel. I convinced my sons (at the time maybe 9 & 10) to swim out there with me. It was one of the scariest moments that I have ever created for myself. Trying to get my boys back to shore, battling the surf & currents.....the thought still terrifies me to this day.....

Ace.....I wanted to swim.....

Highway 101 turned northeast.....and we headed inland once again. At this point in our trip, I began to think about heading home. We had completed the planned iteniary......for the most part anyhow. And I was ready for the comforts of home (I had yet to shower). We drove through Forks, Washington.....famous for the "Twilight" books and movies. Just north of this town we approached the intersection to Highway 110. Right then, and not a second before, I made the split second decision to turn left.....drive west.....back to the Pacific Ocean.....

It turned out to be a fantastic drive through the rainforest.....

20250514_081850_copy_1024x478.jpg

At the end of this road was yet another large paved parking lot.....this was Rialto  Beach.....

20250514_085702_copy_1024x478.jpg

This beach was packed with tourists.....and once again I thought "Oh know.....this isn't good".....

We started walking north along the shoreline.....we weren't headed anywhere in particular.....just walking. Soon enough I realized that most everybody on this beach was walking north or returning from the north.....and soon enough I found out why.....

Hole-In-The-Rock.....that is why people came here. It was truly amazing to watch peoples' behavior here. Everyone wanted a picture of themself or themselves here.....standing within the limits of that hole in the rock. Everyone was polite and patient as they waited for their turn. Here we were at this most incredible place.....not just the hole in the rock, but this entire beach and forest.....that's what I am referring to. I wanted a picture too.....not of me.....but of the wonderful curiosity created by Mother Nature.....

20250514_093714_copy_1024x478.jpg

So we too waited patiently to get our picture.....our picture without anyone in it.....

20250514_093947_copy_1024x2193.jpg

We focused on the shoreline and it too was incredible.....the things that we were able to see.....

20250514_091450_copy_1024x478.jpg
20250514_092340_copy_1024x2193.jpg

Within that rocky shoreline was an incredible assortment of marine life.....

20250514_092114_copy_1024x478.jpg
20250514_092332_copy_1024x2193.jpg

The things that I saw along the shoreline that day reminded me of my days as a scuba diver on the shipwrecks in the Atlantic Ocean.....so alien to what I normally see.....so fascinating.....

Eventually the crowd died out.....I'm guessing that this is one of those Instagram places.....just a guess as I don't participate in that.....I prefer places that are less visited.....less popular.....

20250514_093125_copy_1024x478.jpg

You didn't have to go far to find a place just like that. Once we passed through that hole in the rock, we saw not a single soul.....

20250514_093952_copy_1024x478.jpg

I'm not trying to say that in anyway that one side of the hole in the rock was any better than the other.....just simply saying that there was no appeal to the masses once you walked through the hole in the rock.....

20250514_083459_copy_1024x478.jpg

We witnessed the power of the ocean.....

20250514_083446_copy_1024x2193.jpg

The constant crashing of the waves on the dead wood created nothing short of beautiful works of art.....

20250514_094058_copy_1024x2193.jpg

In the past I've posted pictures of old, weathered wood on cabins, barns, and fence boards.....no two alike.....I think.....these trees rivaled those in beauty.....

20250514_094051_copy_1024x478.jpg
20250514_094105_copy_1024x2193.jpg

Speaking to the power of the ocean.....check out this massive chunk of iron......washed up onto the shoreline.....

20250514_094548_copy_1024x2193.jpg

I'm not so sure how far we walked that day.....

20250514_090544_copy_1024x478.jpg
20250514_090336_copy_1024x2193.jpg

All that I know for sure.....was that it was far enough away to be alone.....

I bet, the next time winter rolls in. And you have some down days, we would love to hear about the days of scuba, if you felt like sharing.

* Personally, that is a world I would love to explore. Other then some snorkeling in Guam, have never done anything like it.
