Thanks for sharing. It looks like an EXCITING trip, maybe more so than anticipated but it appears to have turned out well.
Couple of things I've used or seen that may be useful in trying to post long (comparatively) stories. One is to put it all together offline and then cut and paste it online. (I have had unfortunate luck with accidental deletions/disconnects.) I've seen others "reserve" the first few posts in a new thread for story continuity and then edit in their lines. Food for thought. Those are polishing things though.
The important things are that you got out there (and back), that you took pictures and are sharing it with those of us who are planning/dreaming/stuck in front of our screens (at least for now).
Is there more to share? Looking forward to that and your next trip as well.
Thanks for reading and reply .
Great idea on putting story together offline . After I started I did start to write it in my email and keep it under saved drafts ? But I still keep writing more as I add pics ?
Very true about getting out and back and I feel the same that reading these trip reports help dream ,plan for us that can't be out there now ! I have been reading more lately since my foot injury ended up being worst than thought and I have been using a cane and not walking much since we returned ?
There is some more and some pics that I hope you guys would like that we took over the 4 days we were still traveling ?
Great story!!
And, you left at home the one thing you needed to (leave there) most........Panic!
You kept a cool head, kept your wife calm, and made do with the items you did have with, including common sense!
Great adventure! Glad everything turned out for the best!
Thanks Bill ,
I agree that Panic should never be brought with you ! Just ask my wife if she ever felt panicked when we were trying to get out of there ? She said that she was worried but that I have always made her feel that I knew what I'm doing and gave her confidence that we would make it out ? Plus we did have plenty of food, water and fuel to last at least 4 or 5 days ? The big thing is even after we moved the tree , that we knew that there could always be more that we would have to deal with for the next 9 miles that took about 2 more hours to travel ? Lucky there wasn't !
I have always felt that it's not a adventure unless there's some challenge's to deal with ? But it's best to be prepared for them also . I have had lots of them over my life and its made me stronger and able to deal with them without any panic ! When I was younger I would try to challenge myself by doing things that most would think were dangerous ? But many of us ( adventures ) do things that the most wouldn't think were safe or smart ? From hitchhiking across the US when I just turned 16 to racing motorcycles to riding snowmobiles in the mountains and many travels on Motorcycles and 4x4 I have always looked for adventure !
