Need a good lighter for camping

If you know anyone who uses the stuff, the little Camel Snus tins make great little Vaso-cotton ball containers.

I remember when bic lighters were the equivalent of blow torches on high! I've tried many brands of the current ones and they don't rate compared to ones of the past. The safety police won again. I'd be nice if a manufacturer could put one out with a disclaimer on it: "For Adult Pyro Use Only"

I've been wanting to get something like the Brunton Helios, but I've heard many reports that while they work well when they work, they often leak all the fuel out. Apparently the first fill they work great, and then when you refill them, the valve won't reseal, and they leak. I've seen a number of reports like this. Enough to make me hesitate to spend that much money on a lighter.

I ended up getting a Bruton jet lighter, just a standard unit in metal case. It's not really waterproof, if it's wet it doesn't work. But I've put it through the washing machine, and it works once dried out. However, once I refilled it the first time, now it leaks all the time.

I now carry waterproof matches in my emergency kits. I won't rely on a lighter. I do carry a lighter around in my main kit, just in case it happens to work that day.

I had to Google that one, I see Amazon has them on sale.

No mail came yesterday, I am hoping the Overland Journal and my lighter show up today.

I also carry waterproof matches I got at REI like twenty years ago.

Two good things in the mailbox today.
The lighter and the OJ.

The lighter is smaller though I though it would be, which is a good thing.
I am use to Zippos, and this is way smaller than most of those and other lighters I have seen.

Not use to really filling up a butane lighter.
I had the can from underneath and not much was happening, then I flipped it over and it went it pretty good, and some shot on my arm.
Had to wash it off first or I would have looked like Johnny.

Have not played with the flame adjustment, it works good as is.

I did notice if I let it flame for more than ten seconds it would sputter up and down a bit.
This may be air in the system?
It does not do it for less than ten seconds, and then it quit doing that altogether after a bit.

Very nice lighter though.

I use a plumbing torch from home depot it never fails to light and the wind can not blow it out. I think it is a bernzomatic brand.

My winter usage of lighters is usually limited to the ski slopes.I can't recall a Bic ever letting me down, no matter what elevation.I've also switched from cotton balls/vasalene to Esbit fuel tabs. They burn for 10-15 min., easier to carry and will store for years.
