I have been on the Mac for about 6 years with an old G4 tower, I am a convert to the laptop and wow is it better. My old G4 was starting to be like owning 2 Cruisers, a lot more cussing and fixing than actual fun. :D My wife bought the PB for me for a combined Xmas/B-day present and I think while I was picking it out I may have converted her. Her office is all PC based but the salesman explained away all her fears for integrating the two systems for working at home. :D We also found out while checking out that because of where she works we got an 8% discount on everything. I know the Macs are expensive but holy crap are they easier to use.

Time is getting more and more valuable, much nicer to spend time being productive in a clean user friendly environment. Considering how much productive software you get pre-installed, the cost that much.

Each time I upgrade to the latest and greatest, more productivity is added and the cost stays basically the same. (Shipping now with two gigs for instance, iSight camera built in, more fun SW apps...) :26_34_3:

In my little corner of tech support land, there are 4 of us doing support for this company. I work on an iMac, and my personal machine is a MacBook...the guy in front of me works on an iMac, and has a MB Pro as his main personal machine. The guy to my left was just given a MB as a gift that he and his wife fight over, it's their first mac and they're hooked. and the last holdout behind me just gave in to his desire and bought himself a BlackBook.

His comment after playing and tweaking it all morning(instead of working of course) was, "damn, this thing just works."

I made the jump to a MacBook Pro when the latest one came out... I absolutely love it! I hate using my work laptop now!

This thread is great. Thanks everyone.

I am shopping for a Mac laptop. Its main use, at first, is for my wife's Master's Program work which will be in Chile for 4 months later this year. She needs to run MS Word for the written info, and will need to store many photos from a digital 7mpg P&S camera. She says there is a statistics program she'll need to use also but I don't know the name of it. She says it is a PC-only program. Later uses for the Mac will be on road trips in our van. I don't have any GPS programs now but plan to get and use them. Email and internet weather access from the road will be needed. Also we'll need to store many photos from my Canon 5D when on road trips too. So would this machine, that Scott spec'ed, be best?:

2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
Accessory Kit

And where would you recommend buying it?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

So who here is hardcore enough to use Quicksilver on their Mac? :coffee:

I just did a clean install of Leopard on my MBP this weekend. The absence of Quicksilver made me realize just how much I use it... one of the first apps I downloaded and reinstalled. =)
