New $100 HIDs

I now have these aligned. The visibility they provide is incredible. They have a wide enough beam that I was able to clock them outwards a few degrees to increase overall field of view without creating a dim spot in the middle. A truly amazing light for the price. If I had known that HIDs Aux Lights were this good, I would have ponied up for the Hella or Vision X years ago.

Now, unless I break the housing I will just upgrade the bulbs and ballast when and if they ever burn out.

After seeing this thread, I'm "thinking" about trying out a set.

Any new comments on these. Are they holding up? Also, anyone know the color temp of the HID bulb? I was hoping they aren't too blue. The price makes me wonder if they are more a cheaper blue HID or a higher quality, more OEM color range?

Are these made in China?

I am not sure the color range, but they seem almost identical to my OEM Volvo headlights, just much more powerful.

They are most definitely China.

If you had a chance to do it over again, do you think you'd get another set of these cheaper ones or would you pony up for a more expensive set of HIDs?

Brian,

I got in on this deal when they were going for $75 a piece. I had to drive to Albany to snag a pair, but it was well worth it. The light they put out is identical to my Phillips aftermarket kit I have in my Volvo. They look to be OEM 4300k, not too blue, but rather white light. They work really well and I just finished beating the crap out of mine on a trip through the coast range (Salem to Lincoln City via logging road). Well worth the cost. I paired mine up with a Hella OEM Toyota switch and the combo works great and looks stock.

Here is a thread with a guy that has some mounted on a 100 between some lightforce lights with pics so you can see the color:

A guy on one the jeap forums hooked them up to some a textronix oscilliscope to see how much initial draw they had and what total watt usage was vs rated. They used 42 watts vs the advertised 35 watts, but still subtantially better than say a stock H3 common on so many rigs. I'll try and track down that link as well.

I finally broke down and bought a second set to replace the halogens I have mounted up top. I paid $24 more for this set , but still a bargain, IMO. I have been very happy with the first set.

Im thinking of running out tonight and replacing my (4) HELLA 500's on my roof rack. Anyone have any problems with these lights yet??

Mine just survived Baja, 1000 miles of 40+mph rough dirt roads and 3 foot jumps. Still work great, but I havent done more than this run with them.

Just installed mine. They draw so little I was able to use my stock fog light wiring and just get rid of the useless fog lights. :coffeedrink:
Trying them out along with my front locker tonight!

Yeah that will be nice to drop some draw. Especially with 4 halogens going to 4 HID's.

That's all i needed to hear. No shaking? No color changes?

If the light unit is correctly mounted so as to either take punishment, or absorb shock, the light will survive. The HID bulb is a gas discharge that is impervious to shock as long as you don't break the whole darned thing. We struck a 5" HID against a tree at somewhere over 50mph one day, and the lamp still worked even though the lens was completely gone and the reflector was in pieces. Still using that bulb 5 years later. No, they don't change color just from some rough country, but they will eventually as they approach the end of their useful life of several thousand hours.

Good tech to know. Thanks.

Picked up the HID's tonight and mounted them on the rack. They're too big. My 6" diameter HELLA's look right. The 7" look goofy. I took them back. Oh well, wasn't meant to be.

Now if i could afford to run all VisionX like i have on the bumper id be golden :)

I saw these at Harbor Freight the other day, not sure about the performance but it's another cheap HID light. I would imagine to big for you SOCAL.

Pretty sure those are the same light. The reflector is for a different pattern and the chrome bars on the front make it look a little different. The parts appear to be interchangeable though.
I found quite a few:
Here is another set of lights that must come from the same manufacturer: HIDfoglight.com - Truck lights Regular price:$209.00 Sale price: $129.00 These look to have a smooth reflector and may be a spot like pattern?

Here is yet another set of the lights: JC Whitney - Delta Offroad light $559.99 - $629.99
More: Lazer Star Dominator HID - 7" Spot $289.99 each This one may have a different light pattern.

Lazer Star press release
Gspeed racing Jeepspeed 1722 announces new sponsorship from Lazerstar lights and Morphic industries Looks like they have been around a while. that article is a couple years old.
Parts may not be hard to find at all. These lights use a H3 base and a halogen bulb could be substituted as evidenced from the Lazer Star website selling a halogen version of the same light.
