Mike, in your experience, since you are running the black top, is it that much hotter? I really, really, really like the look of it. Especially with my 60, it would look awesome. I dont want to be one of the fashion before function crowds though... but i would take a 5 degree hit to run it.
I hope autohome would take the heat into account when making it with the epoxy etc. mentioned above.

I have the Standard white top with carbon grey fabric on my 80. I have a Black Storm on special order for a customer, and certainly could get one for you, if that's what you want. No worries.

Is the black storm the only black color for the top? The black storm looks pretty shiny, I guess i was looking at the pics and was under the impression there was a more matte, type black. Oh well! The white will look good too, Im going to look at getting the safari color sides though. Im sure thats a special order...

Ill get the Mrs. on board this week and give you a ring!

Small is 51"W X 83" L

Medium is 57"W X 83"L

Height is the came on both... don't have exact measurements but about 36" H inside (open -mattress to headliner). about 13" or so hogh when closed.

I would suggest that if you want a dark colored tent, get one like a "Black Storm" to start with and then you know the tent was engineered and tested to handle anything you can throw at it. AutoHome does a serious amount of testing.

For example, when AutoHome came out with the OverLand, it was tested for three years before it was released. The test OverLands were disguised with "Air Camping" logos. It proved to be so popular, they now sell the "Air Camping" tent too. http://www.air-camping.it/

Some really advanced composite work goes into Maggiolinas. What I'm trying to say is if you have a white one, keep the colors light and you can take it anywhere and never have a concern, it is tested and proven for over 50 years. If want a dark colored one, you now have the option to buy one of the black ones and then you benefit from the extensive testing that AutoHome does and again not have any worries.

The black top should be pretty easy to turn matte. It is gelcoat, so it is relatively soft and thick. Just take some very fine grit 400+ wet or dry paper and wetsand. It will be pretty messy. Don't wax or else the shine will come back.

I would recommend this over painting because gelcoat lasts a very long time. I' ve seen 25 year old tents that look great with very little care. If you do decide to paint, I still would recommend wet sanding but with a course grit something like 120 to give the paint something to hold to. Otherwise it is like painting on glass.

You have pics of this on your 80? Thanks again for all your help and quick responses.

Hmmm... I thought the concern was just about the tent getting hot inside, didn't think about the epoxy itself. I guess I could go with Bronze, same as the wheels are painted, it's a medium color and pretty reflective...

Prowler, maybe you could just special order a "Safari" tent. The top is not pure white, it's like a cream colour, so it is a little bit nicer colour than stark white.

I was wondering if that safari color on the website was just the side panels/canvas. Tan/safari would actually be perfect since my 60 is tan. From what ive read so far painting is no longer an option for me since it seems a lot more involved than what i really want to do.

Never saw those before.
I like the duel tents on the old FJs.

I know what you mean about the fiberglass being great on these tents.
Since my rig sits outside 24/7 and is also parked under an old growth fir tree at home, the top can get very spoogy during the winter.
But with some scrubbing and then Meguiars Marine wax put on, it looks brand new.
Maybe better than brand new :D

You can see the crud on my roof under the rack, the tents top and sides looked like that last spring until I washed and waxed the roof.

The top is not tan, it is a cream or ivory colour. It's still pretty white, but it's not stark white like the other tents. The fabric is tan.
