LR Max
Local Oaf
LR is being smart about their market. They see the Big daddy rangies flying off their lot. They see the kind of people that are buying these trucks. They aren't like myself, someone who wants to know the diff gear ratio and wants to take it camping every weekend. They are mothers that want a giant station wagon. They are the man of the house who drives to work everyday in a suit. They are for rappers. Flashy rims, full decked out interiors, tons of engine power, and back up cameras are what these customers want.
LR would be foolish to ignore this.
That said, the DC100 would be awesome if I lived next to the beach and surfed everyday. If it could be lifted and nice tires put on it with cool bumpers and rear tire carrier with lights above the windshield, then it would fit in with the K5 blazers and Classic Broncos. Make it a 4 door and now you are into the JK unlimited market (in theory...my theory). Make it comfortable enough for everyday but easily removable doors and a soft top that doesn't require a degree in engineering to remove with some aggressive style. Boom. There ya go. Most won't ever see dirt and when bought second hand the transfer case lever will be frozen but that is how it is.
For a Defender replacement, they really need a LC70 competitor. A mix of modern technology to augment simplicity and the sprinkle of creature comfort...in the form of A/C.
Jeep hit an unbelievable home run with the JK unlimited. It says, "You can drive me everyday. Take the kids to school or the whole family on vacation since I'm comfortable enough. Or you can take the top and doors off, grab low range and RAWR I ROCK CRAWL." Friggen brilliant what they did there. The standard 2 door has kept with the Jeep Heritage IMO. A 2 door Rubi is unbelievably capable straight out of the box. Holy smokes. Overall, owns the Defender.
