8,000 mile update - Rover M/T Maxx Traction, 285/75R16

They are a great compromise between M+S and M/T.

Good wet and dry handling & braking, good handling in wet snow.
Great traction on slickrock, gravel, moderate sand, dirt and decent in moderate mud.
Noise is higher than the OEM Michelin LTX M+S, lower than standard M/T designs and comparable to the 1/3-worn Bridgestone Revo 2s on the other 80: it's noticeable but perfectly tolerable. At highway speeds the slipstream makes more noise than these tires.

I plan to buy another set if they continue to perform this well and are still in production when these wear out. The only improvement possible would be to make them available in the 255/85R16 size for better winter traction, lower rolling resistance and more ground clearance.

It took a lot of weight to balance them at the recent 6k rotate/balance, but there is a strong possibility that this may be due to a poorly equipped balancing machine at my local tire shop...

Dunlop Maxx Traction?

There are many tires mentioned in this thread, confirming you have the Rover Maxx Tractions?

What size?

Thanks for the update.

From what I've been seeing in terms of availability, they are slowly phasing this model out. Last year around this time when I learned of the plans, I thought it was going to be a lot quicker than what has happened.
It seems like they disco' one size at a time, after they have sold off all of their stock. I think that they (Goodyear/Dunlop) are killing off the Maxx Tractions after they've got the production going on replacement sizes in the GY Duratrac model.

I see them advertised for stupid-good prices in some sizes so they must be eager to clear the shelves.
They did the same thing with their other stepchild, the Fierce Attitude.

Actually the Fierce line is going to fall under the Dunlop name in the future, I think they've already started to do that actually...

yes, the Fierce line does fall under the Dunlop name. The new Fierce Attitude M/T has come out in a few new sizes recently, Dunlop plans to evolve this tire further and produce larger sizes. They seem to be a good tire, and for the price you can't go wrong!

I could've gotten Attitudes in a 285/75-16s for $140/tire a few months ago but just couldn't pull the trigger on them. Kaufman tire had some super deals going on them.
I think it's a decent tire but the Jersey Shore moniker and barbed wire bas-relief on the sidewalls were just too anti-Hilldweller and sent entirely the wrong message...

Too bad they're cancelling these and not the Duratrac. The Duratrac is one ugly tire!!
Beauty is function; function is beauty.
I think the Duratrac is a lovely tire; like the Fierce Attitude in function but free of the gaudy adornment. Good in snow too.

Yes, the barb wire...
I wonder what sort of personality they were going after wit hthat marketing strategy... :coffee:

Oh wait, you already mentioned Jersey Shores! lol
I guess with a name like FIERCE ATTITUDE M/T they figured they might as well throw some barb wire on the tires to match the arm band tattoos of the guys they are trying to appeal to. :jump:
