For those of you looking for a fullsize truck with a UTE bed and Four-wheel-camper there is one right here on the Expo for sale: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/108662-2008-Ford-F250-with-Custom-ATC-Flatbed-Camper
Its' build thread with lots of photos:http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/68424-My-new-custom-ATC-flatbed-camper
same truck as in post #24/25 but now on ExpoPortal also

Disclaimer- no relation to seller, truck, etc

DD's camper is not a FWC, but it is close. Sorry to nick-pick.

Very nice look. The angled rear looks great. I also would have the cabover part full thickness the full length, or at least have that as an option.
Any interior photos ?
BTW- former FWC owner here (Grandby) and I loved that camper, a GREAT company !

You can do anything ya want. Personally hauling around 100-150lb of bulky jacks isn't something I'd do for my regular setup. These are nice self contained wandering units. If you like the basecamp thing then unless the terrain you're crossing doesn't accommodate it I'd think a pop-up trailer would net you something easier to disembark at basecamp, cost less, and provide more space. That's just my thoughts on it.

We ride dirt bikes, so any trailer is dedicated to the bikes. Don't really want a Toyhauler either, trying to keep weight to a minimum, that and don't want to buy a bigger truck to pull the toyhauler. Plus there are times I don't want to drag a trailer or the bikes and just go camping. We can be at a site for a week or two, would be nice to drop the camper, to use the truck for exploring, fetching broken down bikes, getting supplies, and such.

Will the jacks fit in the drawer that is available for the UTE beds? I have no clue how deep the drawer is or how long the
jacks are when compressed.

Another question for FWC: What is the weight savings over a conventional slide in/standard bed? I read back through the thread and didn't see anything.

That drawer is paired with a less deep rear cross member compared to what I have, FYI. A solution to store jacks is feasible but just keep in mind you have to support the camper as previously noted so factor that into your plan.

My plan would be jacks in the drawer if they fit and wood blocks or plywood crosses uncrossed stored as well. Honestly, for a long term expedition platform the Taco Ute setup with the ability to base camp (off truck use of camper) is critical to the justification of a truck camper vs. other options. If you are looking for longer term living quarters and can't base camp the camper than many many options become available with in my opinion price being the biggest differenciator... If you are tied to the vehicle and camper than sportsmobile, earthroamer, gxv, unicat, xp camper are all options but if you can base camp with the camper removed... than a Taco (or full size) with a removable camper is soooo much more flexible. Honestly looking at the options I don't understand why someone would travel without the ability to leave the camper in camp and go for supplies, touring, etc. the all in one (gxv etc) units seem so limiting to me. If I bought an SMB, gxv, etc I feel like I would need to buy a small motorcycle to go to town, etc. why not just use the truck with camper removed?

For long term base camping I will carry my jacks and plywood crosses for my rig but that won't be my norm and takes some effort verse other options thus my caution. The niche for these are not self supporting freestanding campers (which come with added weight).
