New Four Wheel UTE Flat Bed Model Coming Soon ...

My plan would be jacks in the drawer if they fit and wood blocks or plywood crosses uncrossed stored as well. Honestly, for a long term expedition platform the Taco Ute setup with the ability to base camp (off truck use of camper) is critical to the justification of a truck camper vs. other options. If you are looking for longer term living quarters and can't base camp the camper than many many options become available with in my opinion price being the biggest differenciator... If you are tied to the vehicle and camper than sportsmobile, earthroamer, gxv, unicat, xp camper are all options but if you can base camp with the camper removed... than a Taco (or full size) with a removable camper is soooo much more flexible. Honestly looking at the options I don't understand why someone would travel without the ability to leave the camper in camp and go for supplies, touring, etc. the all in one (gxv etc) units seem so limiting to me. If I bought an SMB, gxv, etc I feel like I would need to buy a small motorcycle to go to town, etc. why not just use the truck with camper removed?

I agree

Seems like most tray style campers in OZ, are made for base camping/quick removal/installation, some come with quick release jacks.

Kinda long video, but the jacks are pretty slick on the Wedgetail, well the whole camper is pretty slick.

Other than pickup up down motorcycles, I can't see any reason to take the camper off. You can still explore with it in. You can do supply runs with it on. It only takes a minute to lower the top. Part of the reason we like them so much, you can be on the road in moments.

I agree for most long weekends or quick camping trips, but I see the advantage to having the option to drop the camper. For instance if you spent a month in Yosemite I would love to leave the camp setup to go explore. We stayed in a cabin there and i was thinking if we had a nonremovable camper it would be a real pain not being able to leave it. Also, because of bears they are really strict on what can be in your car or popup, so spending a month there it would be nice to not have to break camp every time you wanted to go to the store, a photo class or hike that might be at a distance too far to ride a bike. For instance, leave my wife a sleep in the camper when I want to go catch sunrise photo opportunities or go for a hike, etc. not saying I would do it on every trip but to have the option seems like a benefit over other camper options out there from XP, GXV, sportsmobile, etc.

Yep, we have similar reasons to drop the camper. Even with my Wildernest it was slight pain to close it up to go do something. Sometimes the girlfriend just wanted to sleep or lounge around camp...while I went and fetched fire wood, go fishing, get supplies, or just go wander around...whatever.

4WC just posted this to Facebook. I am extremely impressed. I hope to have a close look at the Overland Expo, but this might be the most significant camper development to hit North America in years. Tons of clearance, side entry, tray-on, way more interior room and storage, and all on the best compact pickup available today.

Are the weights available for it?

I would be interested in the weight for a hawk as I have a silverado. This is one awesome camper. Well done FWC!

Thanks

I am seriously smitten. Just a few small adjustments and it is ready to drive around the world. Imagine that truck in the Atacama or crossing Mongolia - perfect!

Denny, you've got a winner there. Very nice. Congrats to all involved.

This is one to aspire to. Makes me start to think whether or not my Tacoma really needs the bed it came with...
