well the aluminum on the outside was used to lower the weight! these trucks are already pretty heavy!.

I find they're relatively light for their size, and compared to modern cars.

The large Chryslers are 4000+ pounds. Even the Challenger, which is supposed to be a "sports car" is 4200lbs. That's only 400lbs lighter than the Disco and it doesn't have a frame, 4wd, solid axles, etc.
