Newbie question - aluminium body?

Yeah, that's weird, I can't figure out why they'd do that. Most of the weight of steel, the weakness of alumimum on the outside, no corrosion benefit because of galvanic cells that are set up, plus the diffiuclty of joining steel and aluminum.

well the aluminum on the outside was used to lower the weight! these trucks are already pretty heavy!.

I find they're relatively light for their size, and compared to modern cars.

The large Chryslers are 4000+ pounds. Even the Challenger, which is supposed to be a "sports car" is 4200lbs. That's only 400lbs lighter than the Disco and it doesn't have a frame, 4wd, solid axles, etc.
